Anu suggestions as to what languages these are and what country it is in?
-
The top one is probably what was "Serbo-Croat", when I was a lad.
The middle one is German.
The bottom one (British deference?) is English (bad).
As for which country .... well, Croatia seems an obvious guess but Slovenia has a border with German-speaking Austria, so I'll go for that instead.

Chas,
I think you have got the languages correct, but the country is wrong

Hello Greecemad,
I would say the first language and country is: Croatia
and the rest is clear.
Is it right?

At the risk of starting another "it's quiet Carruthers.... too quiet" thread ....
The where (and when) are self-evident, so the question has to be ......
who?

P.S. Greecemad - I wouldn't dare suggest which of the newly arrived new-European nationals is the target of that sign - the thought police would be down on me like a ton (tonne?) of bricks!

Err I don't know the nationality of the alleged felons on the Huddersfield canal.
However it is a fact that there are a couple of northern European countries where carp is traditionally eaten at Xmas and Easter (therefore 'a treat', like chicken used to be in the 50's!) and during and 'after the war' it is said that the lake at Coombe Abbey certainly suffered more than somewhat (well - it did start off as a 'stew pond' for carp to provide the medaeival (sp?) monks suppers, after all!) (I believe there was a POW camp nearby ....) and 'more recently' I do know for a fact (it was in the papers and people were indeed prosecuted, 'ignorance of the law' being no defence!) that an ornamental lake just off the ring road in Coventry just by the Cov and Warwick Hospital, stocked with some very large carp, took a bashing too!
Pete is an avid carpist and follows all the forums, commercial lakes everywhere all follow the 'no kill' policy and A LOT of European lakes (in France especially) took a severe bashing with persons allegedly from these other N European countries visiting and having a good feed! Some of these huge carp can cost around £1,000 each to buy for your lake, the anglers are willing to pay for the sport (shades of E Hemingway LOL) It appears that the 'actual anglers' have caught on by now - however, this intelligence has not always filtered down to the 'common man'.

Yes - I can see that now. There are some lock gates on the right hand side so, presumably a canal - upstream I would think as the water is so still.

It is indeed a reflection in a canal - the photo is upside down. The weather was very still on Saturday. Here is the whole picture the right way up:-

What happens after too much Raki
-
None required - as an ex highway engineer myself I actually supervised that very thing some time back when the white lining gang came to finish of my roadworks scheme. It took a few hours to notice the error Unfortunately the scrubbing / removal / correction process looked ok in the daylight but at night in headlights the error was clearly visible causing me embarassment over a prolonged period of time.

Crowds gather each night at this spot just to see what is supposed to be the worlds best sunset, to be honest we\'ve seen better sunsets from the south coast of Crete and even nearer to home up in the Hebrides in Scotland
