Title: Favourite watering holes
Post by: Icarus on August 22, 2007, 07:39:49 AM
As a newbie, I've been browsing the site and can't find anywhere that discusses peoples favourite bars, either for that afternoon cold beer in the shade or for a few nightcaps in the evening.

I've read a lot about Ostracos, which we found OK, but personally we favoured Antonios (is that the right name??) on the way back from the beach and NuFaro in town for the evening. The latter is run by Joe who is very friendly and ably assisted by a young lady from NZ whose name eludes me at the moment. Service was excellent and apparently he stays open most of the night, if that's your thing.

Anybody  got any other favourites?

You will find  comments about three bars on the article system where the contents of these discussions should perhaps be lodged. Our favourite bar is Livicon - perhaps best for those who like comfort and relative quiet.

Sorry, didn't see that. I'll add Nufaro to that list.

Thanks

Most years we tend to frequent a selection, it depends on how we feel, who we may be meeting up with etc

In no particular order we tend to go to the following:

Ostraco - Often downstairs chatting with friends, may move upstairs later.
Livicon - Great for an after dinner beer or metaxa.
Smerna - Tend to meet up with people here.
Nufaro - Tend to meet up with people here too.
Kyma - Sometimes have an after beach beer here and watch the sun go down.
On the Rocks - Nice beer here which I can't remember the name of (Craft??)
Beach Bar (closest to Plakias) - Brings back my youth of beach parties.

Have yet to try Antonis but may well do for an lunch/after beach/pre-dinner drink this year.

I have added a few more to the Article System (http://forums.plakias.co.uk/index.php?autocom=articles&code=showcat&id=2)
So we can start adding reviews/comments.

We don't drink much after our evening meal so don't have an evening favourite but lunchtime and afternoon we like the Paligremnos - pleasantly cool if you've just come from the beach or walked back from Damnoni.

Don't think we came across "On the Rocks". Where is it? Maybe we just ignored it on the basis it sounded too English.

Another one for the list is the taverna Castro (or I think that's what it was called) - yellow building up the hill a bit behind the town. Lovely views across the bay without too much of a climb. Always planned to go back and have a meal there but it didn't quite happen.

It is located roughly in the middle of this map. (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=http:%2F%2Fwww.plakias.co.uk%2FPlakias.kml&ie=UTF8&t=k&ll=35.1916,24.39122&spn=0.002416,0.003927&z=18&om=1)

Kastro is already in the Taverna category though of course many places could be in both.

'on the rocks' is just put of town on the road to Suda, lovely bar, great beer (craft pilsner) good music but not intrusive and a nice mix of people

For me it has to be "Antonis place" for lunchtime cold ones and "Kyma" for the evening cold ones providing Pavlos's father dosent try to push your table to make more room causing a really cold glass of Mythos to fall over, the contents landing on myself and gushing through the button fly on my jeans and freezing certain parts!

Hi,  We go to Platia for our pre dinner drink, we always go there when we go to Plakias, try the B52 cocktails there, they are HUGE and last year we discovered On The Rocks, a fab watering hole near the small beach, last time we were there (Oct 2006), I literally fell out of the Bar, the ground came up to my face, I blamed my husband on tripping me up, not the Raki were were given to drink before we staggered back home.

Er  you seem to have have Mythos on your mind somewhat - obviously counting down !!! I sometimes have a Mythos in Myrthios as well

John R

I will confess to once ordering a Myrthios in Livicon. Dennis's reaction was interesting.

I'm with you Barny, Antoni's Place is still number one for me, for that first cold one, and some good food, the meatballs and Satziki... are to die for, after a long hot day on the beach, over the last couple of weeks it's been very quiet, just right for a couple of very slow cold beers, and to reflect the day.

It's Antoni's Place, (as in Antony's...)I've also been getting it wrong for years. His name is Antoni.

Good choice, it's been my favourite afternoon bar for years... after a long hot day on the beach and that first... cold one!

I was in town last two weeks in August, shame we didn't meet up!

Hi George,

We left Plakias in the early hours of the 22nd August, so we probably overlapped a bit. Have a look at my "mafioso" photo that I posted this morning - maybe you saw us slumped somewhere.

Still, I'm already being badgered by my Domestic Manageress to book again for next year, so maybe we can share a few mythos then. We have to go in August because she works in a school - Priory in Lewes; you may know it, being from the neighbourhood.

I hit town around 2.30pm on the Tuesday, so only missed you by a few hours. You'll probably be around next year the same time as Pete and Dawn, Dawn has the same problem.

Already seen the mugshot (I've got to change mine as well) and I know the... (oh dear, careful george, you know what this lot is like!)... Priory, very well, I used to work in Lewes.

Wait for it...
