Title: what is it?
Post by: ellimoo on August 19, 2007, 05:40:59 PM
Have just come back from visit to Plakias and have thoroughly loved my first visit - but boy was it hot!!! Any way, my question relates to the intreguing building that was slowly developing opposite where we stayed - the Santa Maria appartments. The building had a drive in area - like a garage-but was tiled from floor to half way up walls, had low level strip lights on the walls, then has a small office type area attached. While sitting on our balcony in the evenings, we saw this building have a concrete forcourt made and a rolling garage doot fitted. We were sorry that we couldnt stay longer to find out what is was going to be. I'm sure it hasnt developed much since we left on 14th Aug, but please........someone tell me what its purpose is!!!

Hi We are going to the Santa Maria Apartments on the 28 August for 2 weeks so will let you know what the building is.  This is also our first time to Plakias can you please give me some info on the Santa Maria.  We are staying in one of the apartments not the studios do you know if these are at the front of the building as I have been told the back of the building overlooks a concrete wall.  Any info you can give would be much appreciated. Also what facilities does the santa maria have as olympic hols only had the basic info.  Is there a bar/restaurant/cash machine but most of all did you like them and were they clean and quiet.  Thanks Anne & Steve

Most of your queries were answered under your First Time in Plakias thread.

Cash machines are located on the main road through the village, fronting the beach. See the Plakias Map - click the button at the top right above.

When I asked about restaurant/bar/cash machine I meant were any of these facilities in the apartments as Olympic had no info on the Apartements.  I meant to ask safety deposit box not cash machine. I have seen all the restaurants bars etc on the map.  Thanks a lot

I'm sure the Olympic description would say if it had a restaurant or bar; it looks far too small. Someone who has been will be sure to inform you re. the safety deposit box.

The 'Santa Maria' is just rooms and apartments and a 'lawn', and is about 5 mins outside the town.
The nearest supermarket is next to the church just down the road, and you can buy a key for the safe which you will probably find in your wardrobe.
Nearest bar is 'Antonis' on the beach road, turn left after the church at the crossroad.

Have a good one, I'm off tonight, 10 hours to go

Many thanks, the car wash did cross our minds but we had many options to choose from!!! The Santa Maria appartments, I think the apprtment is on the top floor [3rd storey]at the front, but am not quite sure, but if so this has a large outside area as a balcony an lovely views I imagine. Our self catering atudio was very basic but extremely clean, the maid came every day, clean sheets and towels every other day, excellent service.
You ask about facilities, well there are none. There is an office type building at the start of the driveway, it says 'bar' but was never open, we just checked in there, all very informal. Santa Maria is quite simply purpose built accommodation, as you have been tols it is only 10 mins walk down the road into Plakias. We loved being out of the town as it gave us the freedom of eating in with quiet surroundings, sitting on our balcony taking it the cool evening breeze, istening the the cicadas. Oh yes, the Olympic rep lived here too, round the back. She has a delightful pet cat, who we chose to adopt, the cat would jump onto our balcony after we invited her and she ended up sleeping on the end of the bed [sorry if you dont like cats, she wont bother you if you ignore her] if you love cats you'll love her.
Restuarants I can recommend, Kri Kri, Harakas and if you want a cheap bite to eat on the go the Gyros bar below the hairdressers, next to the big supermarket in Plakias, I dont know the name but it has a wooden sign hanging out side and is open fronted, you will see people grabbing a bite to eat and you walk by, also highly recommend Panorama up in Myrthios [the village directly behind Plakias] was excellent, try the meze starter and the stufffed zuchini flowers. We also walked to Selia and had an ice cold beer in the taverna there, it looks like a locals only place from outside, but go in and you find yourself walking into a covered terace with stunning views and you may see huge birds of prey [we were told they were vultures!].
Well I have rambled on enough, you'll love it. If there is anything else, please ask, I don't know much but am very willing to share what we descovered whilst there, Regards - Elli

We have just come back from a fantastic two weeks in Plakias it was our first visit and thoroughly enjoyed it.  We stayed at Santa Maria Apartments and couldnt fault them at all - cleaned every other day beautiful room with fantastic views. In response to the question the building opposite is a car wash and is now fully operative.  I have taken a photo which I will put on but havent downloaded it yet.  I will also write a more detailed report on Plakias. Hello to George, Dawn, Pete and Tracey who made us very welcome it was really nice to meet you guys and hope you had a safe journey home. Promise to write more later.

Hi Pete & Dawn
It was great meeting you both too and Tracy - hope her cold is better.  I am going to put a review on the Plakias Reporting in but not sure how to add it on as soon as I know I will put it on.  I also have a picture of the car wash ready to put on.

Hi Ann

Helping women in distress is my forte

You need to reduce the size of your picture, which you can probably do with you photo viewer whatever it is or if you open it up in 'Paint', go to 'Image' then 'Stretch/Skew'. In the stretch area type in 50 in the horizontal and verticle boxes and the picture will be reduced by 50% which will probably be acceptable.

Avatars are not compulsary but it would be nice to have some idea who your talking to. The avatar is the mug shot on on the left hand side of the message. go to 'My controls' and hit ' Edit Avatar Settings' and go from there. I wish you luck!!

Here is the picture of the new car wash which is on the road out of town on the righthandside opposite Santa Maria.  It looks very impressive
