Hi All,

We're looking to have our first visit to Plakias in early June.  The hotel we are looking at is called Secret Nest. I was just wondering if any of you regulars had stayed there, or if you know of the place?

Any advice / opinions gratefully recieved as we are supposed to be booking up tomorrow.

Don't know what the accommodation is like but the family run Secret Nest Taverna serves some of the best fish in town.  It's located on an unmade side road close to the harbour.

Agreed Alan.
Secret Nest has a small menu - but if you fancy fish, just go along and ask what's good that night - you won't be let down.
I've never stayed there, but it is right next to Dora, where we've been staying the last few years, and is a good spot.
I know that they do have their regulars staying there - which is always a good sign.

Ok thanks for the advice guys. We booked up a couple of days ago and we are going to be there from 7th-18th of June.

lovely family run operation.
Their pictures are aroun my office as I type.
My brother stayed there many times and I was there from Toronto in july 2001.
Will be seeing them on may 21st for a few days
then will move to souda bay  which is a 25 min walk from  town.
plakias is a fine place to choose.

Dear Reddiablo,

Hi Roger, this is Lesley.  We met at Thomas's funeral.  Have just returned from a week at the Secret Nest.  It has been difficult to go back since that time but there remain many very happy memories there.  There are still a number of Thomas's pictures pinned behind the bar at the Nest and many people who still remember him fondly.

Niko is now running the Secret Nest.  They didn't appear to be serving food but we were there probably just before the real season gets going.  It remains basic but very friendly.  Although no air conditioning they have at last invested in fans!  There are basic cooking facilities in each room.  It is good value for money - cheap and cheerful!

The only problem is Niko has a young family that are very noisy and arrive at the taverna early a.m. - not good for nite owls!!  Stella (Niko's wife) has her mother living just across the road and they don't seem to need a telephone to communicate - get the picture??  A typical Greek cacophony of noise - part of the charm!

still have photographs  from Thomas  of his times with you guys.
I  cannot believe its six years on  july 25th since his fated journey from the nest.
we have a beautiful stone memorial  overlooking souda bay ,across from souda mare hotel.

the guys were all so marvellous, met them all on july 25th 2001
when we took the ferry boat into souda,drank loads of raki
and sang the manchester rambler till we could cry no more.
nikos   I  am pleased he is open again, last year I was their with my new bride
Julie   and we were with pete and riety and their leicester friends.
nest was closed so they were staying at nice place with a pool
close to souda bay  maybe its called souda bay apartments??
we stayed at souda mare    my wife thought crete was just lovely.
we did athens /rome /ondon /paris manchester lleicester and plakias
next month ,I move to florida afterr 30 yeas in canada
would have been nice to have had thomas  visit.
we were very close and I miss him more with each passing year.
will be in aegean in mid august but alas no kriti
tears about that  but with a group of 20 and cruise is venice and back
will contact you private

I have to add a comment, i did explore quite a bit of the village when i was there, but i never heard of anywhere called the Secret Nest, i am imagining it would be in a secluded area, so if i am remembering rightly it would be near the Jetty which i beleive was real quirt when i was there.
