Title: CAR HIRE
Post by: George on March 22, 2007, 02:29:02 PM
Hi Guys

I'm about to sort the car out for Plakias this year and have only got the Alianthos addresses.

Has anyone got any email addresses or www sites for any of the others in town, ie Monza, Preveli, Moto Auto Plakias etc. etc.

Any info would be welcome...

Best deal I got last year was from www.autoway.gr e-address info@autoway.gr for a fully insured hire, tyres, CDW etc.

This year, I'll go to them again for a 3 week hire. We pick up the car at Heraklion airport and return it there at the end of the holiday.

I have just now contacted them and they are considerably cheaper than Alianthos were last year for the same car and that is for one day longer at the same time of year. I have written back expressing strong interest in their offer. They carry full cwd insurance including underside of car and tyres - which is the same as Alianthos and the reason we chose them (Alianthos)last year. We may choose to pay the same price but upgrade one notch. This is for an 18 day hire - 17 days last year.

Just got a reply, they were 40 euros up on the Alianthos for exactly the same deal. 22 days.

That is strange because they were 80 euros down on Alianthos last years cost for a Fiat panda

I think it depends on the car John and the size of the rental company.

Best deal so far is Eurocar, 200 E's down.

I am sure you are right. The answer is obviously to shop around each time amongst the known reliable car hire companies.

That's exactly what I'm doing and it's surprising that the best figure so far is 30% lower than my top quote.

I would still like to use a Plakias based company though, if the price is right. As far as the deals are concerned they all offer an identical package, including baby seats  .

Might be a good idea to get some of these addresses into the article system... Paul??
Then we can make comments about the good, the bad and the ugly.

On a more general point, the "article system" has not been the same since the hacker invasion last May, and it took a lot of arm twisting before that to persuade people to write articles. Car hire experiences would obviously help intending visitors and accommodation and tavernas as well.

Paul,  I'm aware that you do most of the admin on your own, as well as earning a living and being with your family. I also gather that you operate some sort of vetting process for new members to try and prevent spam. Is it possible to share some of this load with one or two established members with the required computer skills? With the season fast approaching it would be good to start to build up reviews on topics of interest again.

What does anyone else think?

The article system post dates the hacker - he destroyed the FAQ/Reviews section. Agree with you about the arm twisting though, there are 14 reviews in the article system and 10 of them are mine!!!!

For what it is worth,

In 2005, we went with ANNA CARS based near Heraklion. The prices compared with all of the Plakias based companies that we approached seemed to be a lot less including those mentioned above. The car that we had seemed to be brand new.

We ordered a Group D car (Renault Clio 1.4) for 14 days in the high season (July/August 2005) for 389 euros (27.78 euros or £18.89 per day).

We were met at the airport and returned it back to the same point at the end of the holiday with no problems.

We paid in cash when we arrived and we were met by Kostas, who was very friendly.

I would recommend this company again.

This is package that we got was as follows:

- 100% Fully Comprehensive Insurance Without Excess.(Customer is fully relieved from the responsibility for any damage. All vehicles are subject to liability and fully comprehensive automobile and property damage insurance. Any damage is fully covered by the Insurance even if the driver is responsible for the accident.)
- Personal Liability Insurance for the driver and the passengers,
- Theft Protection Insurance,
- Fire Protection Insurance,
- Broken glass Insurance,
- Tyres Insurance,
- Car replace in case of damage or accident,
- All Local Taxes,
- 2nd driver free of charge,
- Unlimited Kilometers,
- 24hrs. Telephone Service supported by a Greek road assistance.
- Free Baby Seats, Free Road Maps and
- Free Delivery and Collection to and from Heraklion Airport.

Sorted!!

The best deal I found was with 'JUST Rent-a-car'.

2006/7 Jimny for 22 Days, pick up and leave at the airport, usual deal plus two named drivers 700Euros.

Their doing a great deal at the moment 231Euros per week.

Other companies I found during my research with reasonable prices:

Elite Rentacar
email: info@elite-rentacar.gr

Eurocar
email: info@eurocar.gr

Autoway
email: info@autoway.gr

The majority of others were all way over the 1000Euro mark but the Alianthos did give me a good percentage off which bought them down to 950Euros.
Alianthos
email: info@alianthos-group.co

Unfortunately I didn't get any response from anyone re: the Plakias based companies which I would have prefered to use.
I will make sure of getting their info this year and try them next year.

Hi All

Got a cracking deal off 'JUST' again, 200 euros off the next closest quote, but I still want to use a Plakias based company and I'm getting no response from Monza either by Fax to Plakias or email contact through their website.

Has anyone else had trouble contacting Monza??
