Y - very wavy - but warm waves . Sometimes calm , sometimes wavy makes swims different. And a bit of wind means you can drip dry.

Minus 2 this morning and scraping ice off car windscreen at heating on train....Monday morning joy to hear Plakias is still fab is a tonic on the day like this in Scotland!  Am very envious and just waiting on EasyJet opening up flights for September 2018.   Booked in with Kostas Chrysoula as usual and looking forward to that already !

Came back for the 4th time this year - still tee shirt weather - 4 or 5 people at the  far end , a dozen at Amoudaki - water still in the 20s so swimming a couple of times every day - everything very laid back - olives about to be picked - things could be worse.

That's half the book something that fits your timetable (for example we have to travel up to Gatwick from Plymouth and back) and then Olympic go and change it...Gatwick's chairs aren't that comfortable and this year the two ladies sitting behind us wouldn't keep quiet so no-one got any sleep anyway. I am still prepared to tolerate it for the sake of my time in Plakias but it is really annoying !

The flights to Heraklion that Olympic is offering for 2018 from LGW are at pretty anti-social times, either for arriving in Crete or UK. Having spent a long night in October at the airport waiting for the trains to start, when Olympic changed the flights at the last minute, I am reluctant to volunteer for it.

This year we had one week in Plakias followed by one week in Paleochora. Next year, 2 weeks in Plakias. 'Nuff said.

Yes. Sorry - I know this is a forum for Plakias but I too like Paleochora very much. As previously stated, it appeals to the same types as does Plakias. There are fewer British and more Scandinavians.  The beach is lovely - far end is the same as Plakias - and the town has much more character than Plakias. It's easy to get to by local bus from Chania as long as flight times coincide reasonably. Plenty of accommodation available on
I usually do both on the same trip - 10 to 14 days in each - and take the ferry from Paleochora to Chora Skafion and then taxi to Plakias. The ferry trip is spectacular.
However, having been to both several times my partner and I just cannot state that we prefer one over the other. But I think our main attraction to Plakias is Amoudaki beach so if you don't use Amoudaki I think you may prefer Paleochora.

I visit Plakias (and Paleochora) every year and take the public bus services both ways every time. It's efficient, comfortable, reliable and cheap.
