Plakias / Re: Full time report ?

Can I second your thoughts.....I often go to Ay. Efemia, which was badly flooded for the second time in 12 months.

I'm amused by "Grockle". Most holiday areas have a derogatory name for their visitors "Emmets" in Cornwall, ect. Do the Cretans have one for us or does filoxenia preclude it?

According to the Telegraph today Greece is contemplating a second lock-down...as tourists have brought a spike of new cases. The increase in positives is up to the level of April 23rd...60 new cases a day. Can't say I blame them.

Snap, although 14 days isolation on return would be difficult.I suspect that the isolation will be scrapped fairly soon.

Plakias / Re: Amoudi beach to Skinaria Beach best walking route
« on: March 06, 2020, 07:22:44 PM »
Its about five years since I did this, but I don't expect the rock has changed much. It's do-able, but the route is indistinct. The main problem is that much of the rock you walk over has very sharp edges....not for flip flops and shorts. If you use stout shoes and common sense its enjoyable, but it might be a good idea to carry a first-aid kit in case you stumble. Enjoy

More information on the ferry website, https://anendyk.gr/?page_id=97#4
It appears to be listed as a day cruise, Not certain if its a full service, but its a good start

Plakias / Re: Imbros gorge

I have walked the Imbros several times and only found the entrance gate staffed once. there are several entrances to the gorge in Imbros village...I would suggest that you check out the situation first, then make the trip. If you are burdened by your conscience, call and leave the fee by slipping it under the door as you pass the gate.

Plakias / Re: book about Plakias

Just returned from Plakias, tried to buy a copy"Plakias in the past" but everywhere the same story..."Sorry, sold out, don't know when there will be available again". So if anyone has a spare or unwanted copy, I am interested in buying it. Thanks

I tried...no problems, using Chrome. When you click on "weather" you should see a choice of location, Plakias or Preveli, then click on one of these. If that doesn't work, then go direct to"Meteo" website

Plakias / Re: News, tui group development

Just been researching TUI's plans to open a new "Robinson" resort on south coast of Crete. I immediately thought of Damnoni...but fortunately its somewhere near Ierapita, so no worries for now, although I feel someday all of Plakias bay and Damnoni will be urbanised...sad!

I read that the famous Plakias wind is sandblasting as usual...has anyone got any explanation for this , such as local topography, particular weather or wind directions?

Where to eat...or not! / Re: Selia tavernas

Try Elia's..... slightly more sophisticated than the usual, but well worth it. And the views from a window seat are incredible. One of my favourites in the area.

PlakChat / What's Plakias like in Febuary?
« on: December 04, 2016, 02:29:09 PM »
I have a few spare days in February and I'm looking at the possibilities of a trip to Plakias. I've not yet seen Crete in winter and would welcome any advice.....which restaurants are open , which accommodation is availabe, is it heated ect. I,'m quite happy to fly to Athens, then either plane or ferry to  Crete, and will probably use a hire car. Perhaps some of the expat community may be able to help. In advance..Thanks
