Title: 1st visit
Post by: alison on February 05, 2003, 06:13:09 PM
Hi. WE have booked our 1st holiday to Plakias. We will be travelling very early in May with our little boy who will be two years old. Please can anyone let us know what the weather will be like. We would also like to know if Plakias is child friendly and where the best places are to eat with a small child...
Has anyone visited Plakias this early in May and if so is everywhere open as we are aware we are probably travelling out of season...
As we are staying in self catering apartments (Nikos Studios), we have no pool. Will we be welcome at other hotel pools or will we be restricted to beach bathing only?
I realise there are many questions to answer but we are new to the Plakias experience and want to know everything.
Thanks. Alison,Paul and Luke.

Hi ALison,
I'm sure you'll have a great time.
I've been in early May a few times. You will probably get a lot of sun - but it does sometimes get chilly in the evenings - so take something warm.
Although there are no 'kiddy clubs' in the resort, children are a vital part of Greek life - and are always welcome. Any of the tavernas will be happy to look after your needs.
Olympic start in Plakias early April, First Choice early May - things will be up and running, and you'll have plenty of choice.
I don't know if you are going with a company - but as it's NIkos, I guess First Choice. They usually arrange that their guests have use of at least one pool in the resort. Most places are happy if you use their facilities - as long as you also buy something from their pool bar, rather than bring your own refreshments.
Have fun - and please ask anyone in the resort if you're not sure about anything - everyone is friendly there.  Let us know how you get on!

Hi Alison you don,t say when in May,But we will be in Plakias from 22nd april -6th may,The tavernas should all be swinging into action,as they normally start their season based on the English Easter.Nikos apts are ok,but if you feel you could be allocated a better room for your needs, just have a quite word with Nikos ,who is most helpful.Do try the Mitos Taverna situated on the main road opposite the turning into the Nikos Apts.Giorgios is a great guy and serves very good fresh cooked Traditional Creten food.
Have a great Holliday and please feel free to contact us if you need any further info.

Hi Alison

We have always gone to Plakias early on in the season - usually towards the end of April and the early part of May - so I can vouch for the weather being good at this time of year although as others have said, it can get a bit cool in the evenings.  We've only had rain, I think, on a couple of occasions and only once was it of the heavy variety.

As for tavernas to eat with small children, I would recommend Finikas which is a bit of a way out of town perhaps (although if you are staying in town at least the walk back is downhill).  If coming from the direction of Plakias, Finikas is at the brow of the hill off down a track to the right, just at the point of the "Welcome to Plakias" sign.  There are rooms attached to the taverna which are often block booked by Austrian companies.  Usually there are a lot of families with young children staying there, so there tends to be a big group of kids playing together. The food is excellent at Finikas and the owners, Kostas & Maria, have a four year old and I think a younger child as well so they will be aware of the pitfalls of eating out with a little one.

Paligremnos on the beach is also good - they have a play area just to the side of the taverna although depending where you are sitting you may not have a good view of the kids playing there so that might be a problem if your child is very young.

Hope this helps
Karen
