How do I update the last time I was in Plakias? I can view my profile and update certain information, but it won't let me update the 'Other Information' section. Do I have to be a member to do this?

PlakChat / Using mobiles in Greece
« on: May 20, 2009, 04:22:09 PM »
Hi,

Until this last year I've resisted buying a mobile phone. However, I've now gone one as it's more and more difficult to live without one.

I know there's previously been a lot written on this board about buying Greek SIM cards, but I can't find it. It won't let you search for SIM.

I have a Nokia phone with an Orange pay-as-you-go SIM card. I'm unlikely to make a lot of use of it in Greece. I won't be sending texts, but may make occasional calls to the UK. However, if its a lot cheaper to still use the public phones I'll still do that. When I go to the Cyclades later in the year, I may make some short internal calls within Greece. Should I buy a Greek SIM card and, if so, where do I get one? Will I need to get my phone unlocked?

PlakChat / Which beach is this?
« on: July 02, 2007, 09:29:06 PM »
I have previously posted the following picture on the board, saying that it was Damnoni beach, pre-hapimag and pre-umbrellas. No-one questioned it at the time. However, comparing this with a modern picture, I don't think it's Damoni beach at all. So is it Souda beach? I don't have any recent pictures of Souda as I haven't been on the last couple of trips to Plakias.

PlakChat / Hasn't Plakias changed!

Compare these 2 photos (I don't know how to get them side by side):

With all the greenery along the front now, you can't see much of what's behind.
Apart from anything else, you can see where the fire was. I wasn't there last year so I didn't see the blackened bits.

The following photo that I found on flickr was taken in Plakias apparently:

Does anyone know where this is? It looks familiar somehow. Does anyone remember if it was produced by SunMed and displayed in all their properties or given to all their clients? It looks to be in their style.

The following link should take you to some photographs of Plakias/Damnoni. Any suggestions as to which year they were taken?

PlakChat / SunMed Rambling
« on: November 18, 2002, 08:41:14 PM »
Hi,

Anyone remember the SunMed rambling holidays led by Bill and Joan round about 1990? That was my introduction to Plakias and I've been back about 6 times since, the latest in June this year.
