hello from Canada
« on: April 01, 2006, 03:57:57 PM »
Hi  guys
sorry its been soooooooo long since I posted.

hectic life travelling here thereand everywhere since
I married last april 9th in las vegas.

have spent nine weeks in my future home of naples florida
since last october.

I  really like naples but I LOVE  souda bay  to the west of plakias.

my american bride  Jules and myself had a lovely drive from hania
to souda, we came  via  selia, to show her the view.

had a lovely week , it was 5 years exactly since my brother Thomas
was tragically lost to us while he journeyed from
the secret nest  to  Iraklion.

Julie and myself laid a memory of Tom on the sisses road where the
catostrophe occured
With the  marvellous help of Toms friends in the area we arranged for a
touching stone memorial which overlooks  souda bay.

it is just metres west of souda mare hotel.

if you are passing take a few minutes to sit and toast
'THE MANCHESTER RAMBLER"   Thomas  J Murney

you can sit on the stone ledge and even leave  mythos in place.

all the best

Roger Murney   Toronto  Canada

soon to be  us resident in Naples florida

but will always think of  SOUDA.

ON A CRUISE THAT DOES GREEK ISLES THIS AUGUST BUT NO  KRITI.
will  ask captain when we are close to  the enchanted isle.

my best wishes
to all at souda mare hotel, gallini tavern, secret nest, etc etc

Zak  I am sorry that we missed each other last July
hope you and Nicholas are well.

Stellios  Kaoudis will phone you in next week

cheers   red d

cheers Chris
yes he was  "the manchester rambler"

I believe it was78 when he made his first  trek into plakias.

Tom told me many stories of his twice yearly visits.

and his walks to souda when there was only a dirt road
past the sunshine pub.

we spread some of his remains in souda bay at dusk
25th july 2001.  one year exactly from the day he died enroute to Iralklion.
so he got back to the place he cherished so dearly.

we were all aboard the previli ferry , playing the manchester rambler
by Ewen McColl,  AND FRIENDS RECITING DYLAN THOMAS

it was the most  spiritual moment of my life
we ahd a fine interprter on board and gallons of the good Raki.

Lefteris  was so moved, being a sailor he understood the significance of ashes in the  sea.

he told me that he would love to choose that for himself but is forbidden by
orthodox guidelines

glad I am a agnostic then.

Peter the  friend who speaks 18 languages
and is employed by eu  at maastricht

explained to my brothers Cretan friends , who he known for 2 decades
the significance of the rambler song
and its socialist meanings
when you are on the water in souda at dusk
and looking up at those magnificent mountain tops
and listening to McColl sing
well you can imagine the rest

enjoy your moments has you pass and see the memorial stone.

my brother is where he loved and  HE IS FREE

UP  THE REDS

Roger  Murney   toronto

ps  Chris if you could please take some digital pics of stone
our friends were adding  to it recently.

would like to see how it looks thanks.
