Has any one seen any one actually having a massage? We were on far end beach for a week begining of July and never saw any one take them up on their offers, thought it was quite expensive imo!

Also at the far end first two weeks of July, there was about 4 people over that period that we saw had a massage, you seemed to get about 25 - 30 mins. The problem was they had trouble removing the oil afterwards, some people were having to rub sand on then have a lengthy dip to remove it.

We didn't actually see any one having a massage but were asked 3-4 times a day which got a bit annoying, might have had one had they not been so expensive!!

Whatabout the "donut beach service" this year? Has Leftheris shown up yet?

17 days ...
shinaria
Some thin bloke with a moustache has been knocking them out for the last three years, a bit of a miserable sod I think, buts thats just my opinion, others may not agree.

The thin bloke is Leftheris's brother, Leftheris is ok as we spoke with him last week but his asthma is very bad & he can not manage to spend his days walking up the beach in the hot sun anymore. His brother is lovely once you know him but his English/German is not as fluent. The Donuts are still as good & more flavours this year!!

Apricot?

No Apricota I'm afraid, that was my favourite too!! He did say apple though unless he meant apricot!!

P.S New service on the beach this year massage & CD/DVD sales!!!

Plakias / The Freddie connection

Just entering the second week of our fortnight's holiday, and have enjoyed the best weather ever, I reckon. Also just enjoyed our second meal at Vrisi, a newish restaurant up in Myrthios where Freddie - sorry, my mistake, Fredi, according to his football shirt! - everyone's favourite beach boy, spruces up in smart black to become Freddie, waiter extraordinaire, for the evening. The decor of this place is less traditional and spartan than, say, Myrthios's Platia, but I love the modern style and colours, and they have the comfiest chairs in town. The menu's nicely traditional but with a few different dishes, too, like baked haloumi, and all really well cooked and plentiful - the pastitsio has gone down particularly well with hubbee. And of course they have wonderful views over Plakias. So if you fancy a pre-dinner stroll up through the olive groves I can highly recommend Vrisi - it's just beside the water feature below the main road through Myrthios, with a choice of two footpaths leading down to it from the road, one to the right of the kafenion, one just beside Platia, or if you're driving up from Plakias there's a road off to the left just before you enter Myrthios. Or you can walk or drive up from Plakias through the olive groves by the youth hostel road.
I have pics which I can't attach when I'm not on my home computer - they'll follow!

We are just back from Plakias-and would concur that Vrisi was a great discovery this time-so much so that we ate there 3 times. It was very quiet-but quite delightful and very comfortable and being only marginally more expensive than in town.

Highly recommended from us, enjoyed 4 great meals/evenings there, of course the service is top as is the whole ambience, decor, view & fantastic food at a very good price. Not expensive at all xx

We stayed at Paligremnos. We were a bit worried about the new development next door but that didn't detract from the joy of Plakias. When we were there, they were putting in the doors and finishing building the walls so still difficult to say when it will be occupied and whether it will indeed change the nature of the place. The far end seems the same as ever-with both lots of Fredi's blue umbrellas being occupied by the clothes shy brigade.

Plakias-on our fourth visit-remains utterly delightful.

Livicon certainly has it, so you can surf whilst having a tipple or two.

Or - not - like me quietly leaning on the outside wall with iphone - hauled inside by a grinning Denis - who insisted that I took a seat and bought nothing !!!!!!

John R

Yes the Livicon has it as said above as does Smerna Bar, Frame, Notus & Panorama in Mirthios.

Beach Bar cat says 'Don't stop'

I hope he/she is still ok, this adorable cat was still there in November when the beach bar was closed. It looked very healthy & was being fed by me but more importantly by friends of the animals. The most friendly & affectionate cat ever.

Hi Paul

All I can say we've flown Aegean twice now Xmas 2008 & November 2009, great airline, service first class & remember as soon as you board in Heathrow you are in greece, music, announments, food, amstel etc a good way to start your holiday. The wait in Athens is nothing it's a great airport, in fact we thought this time 2 hours wasn't long enough on the way home! & then greek all the way back to the UK. For an extra 10% I recommend it & the added bonus to arrive in Chania. Also your flight to Athens from Chania is an internal flight so no 2 hour check in. When we flew early on New Years day we stayed in Chania on New Years eve which was very enjoyable so another to bear in mind...

Rowena

Hi Rowena,

Thanks for this, I booked with Aegean in the end and it sounds like it was a good choice.

I read reviews on the web and the Greek food and Ouzo upon boarding sold it to me!

How long is a taxi ride from Chania airport to Plakias?

Paul

HI Paul,

I think you will enjoy.

Taxi about 1 hour 15, it's only about 12 km closer than Heraklion.

I'm with you spottt, I always think to myself that a nice slow stroll down to the far end in the morning will give me a bit of exercise. But if there's a car sitting outside the apartment it does seem such a waste doesn't it?

george...

We have just paid 184 euro's for 2 weeks car hire with a company called 'The Best cars' this was an out of season price as it was for the first 2 weeks in November but I think their prices are vey good anyway. That price was for full insurance no excess & 2 drivers. The car was good as was the service at Heraklion. So if your thinking of booking a car do look at their website www.thebestcars.gr .

Rowena

Hi Rewena

That is very good information......as regulars to Plakias we are always looking for a better car hire deal.
Have just checked their website for end August next year and for 28days hire we could save more than £300 compared to our normal deal with Euro Cars...........well done & thanks.

If we every happen to meet in Plakias we will owe you a Beer!!

Happy Winter

Les & Dave

PS. sorry spelt your name incorrectly!!

Wow that is a big saving, glad you found the info useful
