Referring to the resent postings of JohnB, where he promotes new apartments in Plakias, it would be interesting to find out what you forum members think about this. Ultimately it is in the hands of the administrators to decide this, but I have a feeling that we all have opinions on this subject.

Time to make up your mind.

Please bear in mind that any rules on this topic can only be enforced by the administrator, Ploppy, and that would mean more work for him.
The work he does on here is voluntary and unpaid and he may not be willing to commit more of his time.
I would not like the forum to lose him because the job becomes too onerous.

I agree with that John. We were lucky that when Andy decided he had had enough Ploppy (who unlike many of us works full time) was willing and able to step in. The poll has attracted only a very small percentage of the membership to vote so I guess most people aren't too bothered.

We were not trying to increase the workload of Ploppy. Only hoped to see more forummembers would give their opinion.  The more votes the easier a decision can be made. However the end decision remains with the Administrator.

This forum is almost totally free of commercial postings and spam. This, beside the great photos and the forum members' encyclopedic knowledge and numerous witty remarks, is its greatest attraction. The absence of spam made me believe that some weeding was being done. But when I saw JohnBs messages and the discussion that followed, I realized that this was not so.

The main intention behind the poll was to give us members an idea of what a majority of us think about the topic. If we get a result showing that we don't  like commercial postings, it may deter us from placing the same message in three different treads. We are, in my eyes, all very sensible and democratic people, and I count JohnB among us.

If we were to get real spammers  in here (god forbid) it will not be much we members can do about it. Let's then hope that the commercial actors see the value of keeping this forum as it is.
After all, a look through our topics is the best and cheapest market research any hotel manger, taverna owner, taxi driver, tour operator, sun-bed whatever and brewer can do.

Ploppy (must he never go thirsty) is doing an admirable job for us, and I want to use this opportunity  to thank him for it. Thanks Paul!

Hi All,

Sorry I have been absent recently, have had a lot going on but seems to be becoming nice and restful for me coming up to Christmas which is good

Thanks for the kind words. Thankfully the forum pretty much seems to run itself with the great bunch of people we have here.

As for the commercial posting, I think I'll leave it for now. Personally I don't mind the odd related post but it is something we can keep an eye on.

Cheers,

Paul
