PlakChat / Nudism
« on: March 14, 2013, 02:16:01 PM »
We love returning to Plakias, but do enjoy exploring other parts of the world too and have just returned from an excellent two week break in the Maldives with temperatures into the 30s every day, endless sun and no rain.

I mention it as we were amused to note whilst over there that nudism and even topless sunbathing are strictly forbidden by law, with severe penalties for any transgressions. Not much good for the Farenders amongst you then. Good job we aren't:-)

Where to eat...or not! / Minoiko
« on: September 25, 2012, 11:19:09 PM »
Just back from another great two weeks in Plakias staying as ever at the excellent Stella Studios. Soon established four favourite places for eating out. The Medusa, Harakas, Antonis and somewhere new for us this year the brilliant Minoiko. The latter is situated approx 200m from the front down the road leading towards the youth hostel. We really recommend people try it. Great food and service and decent prices plus attractive surroundings and very clean. Equally as good as our favourites over the years the Medusa and Harakas.

Holiday Companies / Olympic v independent from Leeds Bradford 2013
« on: August 17, 2012, 11:42:11 AM »
With all the comments via other threads about the price benefits to be had from booking a package with Olympic I checked their website earlier today re a two week holiday in September 2013 from Leeds Bradford flying on the same Jet2 flights we would normally use and here are the interesting findings.

1) Cheapest Olympic offering was staying at Dora and with the infamous transfers included for £803 for two.

2) As we always look to stay with Markos, Evi and family at Stella Studios, if we used Olympic but stayed at Stella's the cost would be £803 + say £500 = £1303.

3) To travel independently as we prefer to with a hire car for the whole two weeks from airport to airport the cost is £635 for the same Jet2 flights + £500 accommodation + say £300 car hire = £1435.

The latter is clearly the most expensive option, but we do get to stay at our much preferred accommodation in Plakias and have a car for our use every day for the two weeks as well as pleasanter transfers from and to the airport. Only £132 more than using Olympic and staying at Stella's too but with no car.

Food for thought.

Where to stay / Stella's

Does anyone have an update on how poor Yannis' recovery is going? It was heartening to at least see a smile on his face in September.

Holiday Companies / Ryan Air
« on: April 18, 2007, 10:24:56 AM »
I know people may have mixed views of Ryanair, but we've found them OK in the past. If only they flew to Crete. Just sorting out a trip to northern Italy next month and I'm inundated with offers of 1p + taxes each way daytime flights with Ryanair from Doncaster to Pisa and back. Total cost for two return flights incl. all taxes less than £50! Can cope with an extra £5 each way per hold bag if required.

How can you fly to Italy and back for £25 all in? The travel world does seem to have gone mad in some respects, not that we're complaining.

Holiday Companies / Flights/car hire
« on: May 09, 2005, 03:30:00 PM »
Hi,

New members.  My wife Sue and I have been regular visitors to Plakias most years since the early '90s and view it like visiting an old friend too.  Always go October Half term week and have stayed every year bar two (when at the Myrtis) at wonderful Stella's.

We too are victims of First Choice's decision to pull out and, as we hope to go again this year and stay at Stella's booking it directly via their son, I'm exploring flights/car hire.  Got a few potential flights via the web, but any tips from anyone?  Also, any tips on car hire?  Have a reasonable quote already via Expedia.

Thanks

Graham
