Zante - request for recommendations
« on: April 18, 2006, 01:03:53 PM »
We are planning a last minute holiday to Zante (no holidays to Crete from stansted, this early in the season). Just wondering if anyone has suggestions for good or bad resorts. As a far-ender, it looks like we won't find any naturist beaches   . Never mind. Not surprisingly, we're looking for somewhere like Plakias. Any suggestions. Also, we like walking so info on the best (or any) places to walk would be appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks for the warning  :'(  The deal we might take would be so cheap that the accomodation will probably look like it's suffered eathquale damage anyway

Choice of Zante was based on price and availability from Stansted. Other options might be Sardinia or Corfu. Main thing is somewhere for a stress free week.

Take no notice G & K, he's jealous.
Can I carry your bags, pretty please? I'm ready

Sorry I can't help you with Zante, Sardinia or Corfu, my travels tended to take me to lesser known places.

How about Haraki on Rhodes, there's a great secluded beach just up the road. We used to do a week there about this time of year.

Quite right Leen - we are the ones who are jealous. I tried the xl Airlines link but no flights from Stansted at the beginning of May. Haraki would have been worth a try but 2nd is the latest we can fly (Rhodes flights start 3rd).

Hi Graham and Karen
We were in Argassi  a few years ago and managed to find a 'suitable' beach at Gerakas, it is also known as the Turtle Beach, just walk to the end!
It is past Porto Zorro and keep going to the end of the road. We had a good holiday there, you will need a motorbike or car to get there. There are other beaches too, try Cap'n Barefoots website for more info.

Thanks Lin - I've seen Gerakas mentioned on another site so if we get the option we will holiday at that end of the island.

First, forget the earthquake worriers as you could experience one in most of Greece. I went to Vassilikos in the far south. It is a very quiet resort, with one of the best "farenders" beaches I have seen. To save boring everyone I'll E-Mail you what I wrote at the time and posted on a holiday review website.

Haraki is nice but lacks a farenders beach. If still considering Corfu, then Agios Georgious (St George South) has a wonderful beach of that ilk.

Agreed, but if you walk inland from Haraki and take a right hand turn onto the (as was then) dirt track, pass the ruined castle you will come to Amoudi Beach. Pure sand and a mobile bar!

This was 2001, who knows now!!

I've heard that Plakias is nice this time of year!

George,

When I was there in 1999 the beach you describe wasn't a farenders one. Maybe you set a trend though.
