A number of Greek people have said to me that their language is easy.  How can it be, with six different ways of writing the sound 'ee', for instance!

You never tried to learn Dutch I presume.
We have some words which cannot by pronounced correctly by foreigners.

No Greek will blame you for writing errors. (Perhaps your teacher?)
You are trying and this is a sign that you are interested in their way of living, culture etc. A greater compliment cannot be given.

Thank you beachcombers.

As a matter of fact I have tried to learn Dutch!  In connection with my visit to Aruba a few years ago.  And you're right: the subtelties of pronounciation are too complex to be imparted by the international phonetic alphabet.  So I never got any further than Heft U en kamer frei?

Some fantastic photos, not just the 'winter wonderland' ones. The lighting in them seems much better than I get with my camera but maybe, in my case, rarely taking it out of fully automatic mode is partly to blame.

you mean, "cannot be pronounced correctly", I suppose.

Still, it's a great compliment that you're taking an interest in our language and culture ...

Now we have to wait another 100 years to see snow in Plakias again, that means, better print out these pages so our ancestors can see what this wonderfull village looks like once in a century.

English is not a special interest for me as it is a necessity for my job.
All cultures have our interest. Some cultures are easier to understand than others............
We dislike cultures without respect for other cultures.
