Holiday Companies / Re: Extra checks at passprt control
« on: August 03, 2017, 02:08:06 PM »
I looked at the photo of the queue at Heraklion airport and could see it was a queue of passengers still with all their luggage. That means they were in a checkin queue and not an immigration control queue. Checkin queues outside the doors of Heraklion airport are not exactly uncommon at very busy times such as now. The same article says "Greece, Denmark and Austria are expected to adopt the new rules sometime over the next few weeks." so there may indeed be problems of this nature at Heraklion fairly soon (when we are there in September !!)

I was watching your weather every day and have just had very long chat with Les and Chris. OK it might have been the worst you have had in 13 visits it would have been great for us. We don't like it very hot and a bit of rain doesn't bother us. We really envied you all being there. Far better weather for us than an ultra hot September (say). Anoraks and boots are our choice !!

There was 12mm rain yesterday and 10m today. The muddy colour of the water is usually caused by the two streams going into spate after a torrential shower carrying lots of sediment. Not been stormy for a while. You can see all this info re weather on the real time weather station situated on Medousa :-

Yes - we just back as well. Second time this year. Wonderful holiday at wonderful place with wonderful people - especially the company at Stella Pension. Evi and Markos at Stella make us all so welcome and are the head of one big holiday family. Breakfast club a major social event :))

Antonis is one of our very favourite eating places and deservedly getting very popular indeed in the evenings now. Booked again for next year.

Saw her yesterday afternoon walking past Livikon - smartly dressed in Olympic uniform and carrying lots of brochures or something. Would have been very impressed but we come here independently :))

There is usually adequate with cars safely parking on the side of the road. Rarely are there dozens of vehicles there

Very much so. Easier to pick up the path if you start at Kalypso. Best route is to take path to Damoni via olive groves from end of Plakias road and take the very obvious track to Kalypso from Damoni descending into Kalipso via a very dramatic set of concrete stairways. Then on the road out of Kalypso the track to Plakias is well signed and obvious when you get on to it. We think it is one of the best walks near Plakias.

I just took that photo as well today !! I'm not sure of the names of the ones still missing but basically looking at them from the East end the line up starts with a gap and then alternates with rebuild, gap, rebuild etc. So gap, Sofia, gap with work in progress, Muses, gap with some work, Ostraco, gap with massive umbrella (folded today,) and finally, just off the new concrete plinth a gap with smaller umbrella but lots of nice wicker seats and tables (quite well patronised today). Generally quite busy at lunch time today but to my slight annoyance there is waiter hassle for trade on the street making it a definite no no. So 3 complete rebuilds a gap being actively rebuilt. Tried sending photos but wifi a bit too slow for that. Beautiful weather.

Thank you. I will see what I can do. Things were fairly complete when I was there late September October - I think one unit hadn't started but was about to ( not to sure of that - memories blurred.

We were also greatly saddened to hear about John's death particularly in such sad circumstances. We looked forward to meeting him each year, along with Tom, during our Autumn visits. Sadly last year he did not make it in Autumn but he was in frequent email contact with us during his Spring visit extolling the virtues of his eating place, Medousa, where he will also be missed - occupying his reserved table. He was a lovely gentle guy. I particularly remember him not too long back when he looked after Tom's welfare when Tom had a prolonged stay in Rethymnon hospital. John's care and the kind actions of both locals and fellow tourists in his support was a strong indication of how well liked he was and how the Plakias community support such people. Tom and John were Plakias legends.

RIP John and wherever you are. may you enjoy lots of hot beaches, good food and canine company.

John and Gillian
