Plakias / Re: Olive oil on tables
« on: December 31, 2017, 01:38:35 PM »
Hello Yvonne. We often think of you and those olden days when we could both walk easily(That's us 2)
Brain cells dwindling at the same rate as muscles but at least we're still here
Oh how I would love to come back to Plakias via Chania, Kissamos and Paliochora again but so often in life I find it's best not to return lest reality proves so far from memory
Having both finished work now it means mostly a 24/7 relationship
How are you both faring?
Wouldn't you think Greek politicians would have more to do than bring in new olive oil regulations?
Surely diners with any taste buds would soon boycott restaurants with counterfeit olive oil !
I never did have the drink I promised myself on the Ostraco balcony :( ... but we did have that lovely "misguided" tour via the Grape press cafe :)
Those were happy days and I wouldn't have missed them for the world
Love to you both

It's been a few years since we visited but I vaguely remember Joe's waitress being called Sonya.
Of course it could be her successor you have in mind :-\

Ali is the expert on this subject .... can U get a personal message to her.
I remember when she came off her scooter and received big tooth problems but ended up with her lovely smile back

Many years ago we had the same idea
We decided that before deciding where to buy we would take a year long rent in the area
In looking for a place we met many delightful Brits living (and working) in Plakias
The library is a great place to meet these people ... also Joe's bar (Nufero on the front)
In the end we decided against the move but wouldn't have missed the experience :)
I wish you well !

Having been visiting Plakias  (and nearby Crete) for 20years I suppose it's inevitable that some of us are
showing signs of wear. We certainly are !
No doubt we'll start dropping off our perches soon !

At least we had some lovely experiences and keep fond memories :)

Plakias / Vegetarian eating in Plakias
« on: December 14, 2010, 02:17:35 PM »
Veggi dishes have improved in Greece over the years. Indeed 30 years ago some of my friends had to exist on Greek salads and omelettes for the whole duration.
Now, we often find that despite being confirmed omnivors we often order a wholly vegetarian meal by accident and enjoy it.
However, sadly lacking in Plakias is the wonderful dish Bouraki. This is widely available in the Kissamos area and in Paleohora. Perhaps we should start asking for it ... I'm sure Kastello would oblige as they seem to produce dishes never seen elsewhere.
Has anyone else found Volos? Stewed Hyacinth bulbs like little onions. We had them in Kanevos on the right at the top of the gorge where you turn left to Kali Sykia. A terrific restaurant run by a widow and her daughters. Well worth a lunch break.
That's the trouble with Plakias .... so much good food and not enough time to try it all !

Plakias / Plakias to Chania
« on: June 16, 2009, 02:04:21 PM »
We have stayed in Chania a few times and I would suggest that a visit to the covered market is a must. Not particularly to shop but to experience the life of Chania. There are refreshment stalls in there too.
If you have any interest in the history of the island a visit to the archeological museum is good too. Remarkable finds from pre-minoan to Roman and a quiet outside place for a sit. Not your average museum

Hey Kerstin
Thanks so much for your lovely post it really took me back there .... roll on September
Good to hear Freddy is still in employment. Did you see if Emma was working?
But sorry to hear about your cat. I cry more over the loss of my cats than my relatives I'm ashamed to say
You too Ploppy. Did you get a new companion for your other little one yet?
