Holiday Companies / Re: Olympic 2018

Couldn't find anything with transfers included this year so have decided to use the local services with Takis. We'll get there quicker at least.

I am still expecting my flights from Bristol to be changed - mainly because they are currently extremely convenient times and Olympic always seem to change them at least twice for less convenient times. Still have saved on getting from Plymouth to Gatwick (now a 50 return to Bristol on a luxury coach rather than 180 ish on a crowded train.

Getting there should be stress free and part of the service so not sure which school of tourism Olympic subscribe to as they never seem to get it right.

I was checking yesterday.....LGW to Heraklion all 'sold out' (adding a premium to the costs for a different airline) plus no transfers so an additional 292 for the 180 odd to get from Plymouth to Gatwick making our precious holiday look as though it wasn't going to happen ! Was told it would be on Easy Jet (not my preferred airline) and that there might even be an additional problem with matching the flights, the routes and access to Costa Chrysoulas (how the &^%$ does that happen ?)

Then tried Bristol (cheaper and easier for us) and found a solution as they now fly to Heraklion as well (didn't know that) considering that...a bit later than we had hoped but not too far out of our time and price range.

I cannot believe the Olympic attitude. If I ran my business like that I'd be in all sorts of problems. Whatever happened to customer service ? No wonder people moan about holiday companies ! (Sorry Elspeth ...not your fault !).

That's half the book something that fits your timetable (for example we have to travel up to Gatwick from Plymouth and back) and then Olympic go and change it...Gatwick's chairs aren't that comfortable and this year the two ladies sitting behind us wouldn't keep quiet so no-one got any sleep anyway. I am still prepared to tolerate it for the sake of my time in Plakias but it is really annoying !

Gossip / Re: How did you first find Plakias?
« on: September 09, 2017, 10:44:25 AM »
By chance really.....back in 1987 by then partner wanted to find somewhere with a nudist beach so he booked with Sun Med. I loved it at first sight....although I've never been able to locate the rooms we stayed in (somewhere at the back of Costa's I think). The rest is history.....we booked to introduce my (now) husband to foreign travel....have spent our 40th and 50th birthdays there and on Tuesday will be celebrating a 30 year association. Have been elsewhere but it keeps drawing me back.......enough said !

I thought they'd been banned from the bay because of the noise intrusion and the thin film of pollution they leave on the water.....hey ho...cant win everything. I can cope with the kite surfers and windsurfers but the jet skis are a real annoyance.

Pouring here in Plymouth too so shots of the beach and temperatures of 33 degrees over the weekend were welcomed ! Lots to look forward to. Will be out there in September too.

Taxis and, then, two feet are the best option...nothing is too remote around Plakias. Quad bikes are fun but they re not covered on many holiday insurance deals (as they young lady in Zante found out) and, although the roads are in much better shape than they used to be, many of the off-road paths are simply that...paths. They are not built or designed for quad bikes. There is also the fact that they make so much noise and many would not welcome that. That's the reason why you seldom see jet skis in the bay - too much noise and pollution. The taxi drivers will do their very best to take you where you want to go....and it will be safe, relaxing and quick.
