How far is the Island of Spinalonga from Plakias, Has anyone been? and is it worth the trip???? Alex

We have not been to Spinalonga yet, but we are planning to visit it this year.  

It is 106 miles (170 Km) from Plakias according to Multimap and should take 3 hours 25 minutes to drive.

Just read 'The Island' by any chance?  

I believe Graham & Karen went there last year so they should have some good info.

We went there last year. If you go to the 'Reporting In' topic in the Plakias forum, post #104 includes a link to photos on Flikr - including some of Spinalonga. Post #108 is a report of our trip.

We enjoyed it and if you've read the book, 'The Island', then it's a 'must see'. We would recommend driving to Plaka and getting the boat from there - a bit furhter than Agios Nikolais or Elounda but much quieter so it is easier to imaging what it was like 60 years ago.

If you click on the Seach option at the top of the main page and search for Spinalonga, that will get you to topics with posts that mention Spinalonga.
