Where to stay / Costas Chrysoulas - across the road
« on: November 06, 2015, 01:43:19 AM »
Sadly this year we couldn't get booked up for Plakias, so instead had to settle for Hersonissos on the North coast ( I know, I know). However, we had booked into Plakias at Costa's for a couple of nights and were offered the rooms across the road - that is, if you come out of Costa's past the Apollo place (the back door) it is the apartment above the beige coloured building directly in front of you. These apartments are huge and wonderfully set out. The balcony is roughly the size of  Belgium and could comfortably seat around 25. I never knew this place existed and now have the trauma of deciding if I should ever stay in the main building again should Olympic ever get it's act together again for people from North of the border. I mean, I always thought that room 38 was a great one to get with the balcony at the back and therefore the nice quiet place to imbibe oneself with copious amounts of ouzo of an evening, but now I find myself in a quandry. Main building, or staggering violently across the road for breakfast in the morning? Come on people, I need answers here, which are the best rooms at Costa's?

Where to eat...or not! / Paligremnos
« on: October 15, 2014, 08:53:08 PM »
For as many times as we have stayed in Plakias, tonight was our first ever time at Paligremnos. It was simply fantastic, we both had dishes from the specials, and tasted some of the most succulent pork I have ever had. We will certainly visit again before we leave. A nice setting, friendly staff, wonderful food and good prices. If you have never ventured along there before, then go, you will not be disappointed.

Plakias / Loutro
« on: August 27, 2014, 08:18:17 PM »
Are there ferries that go from Sfakia to Loutro in October? Most timetables seem to expire in September although I imagine there must still be trips available to supply the locals that live there. Anyone been in October, and if so can you recommend accommodation there.

Where to go / Old bridge
« on: July 24, 2014, 12:09:17 PM »
I saw a walking tour advertised at one of the travel agencies that had photo's of an old multi arched bridge which seemed to have been made using red stones. Does anyone know where this is, and more importantly, can we strike out from Plakias itself on foot, or do you have to drive somewhere first?

Plakias / busy in end May / start June?
« on: April 16, 2014, 01:43:39 PM »
Managed to grab an extra bargain holiday for the end of May till the 10th of June. We normally go in October as our last bit of sun before battening down the hatches as it were. We're booked for October but couldn't resist the bargain price we saw for next month. Is the resort busy at this time of year, and is the weather similar to October in that it will be fine for walking around all day if required?

Plakias / Begging etc
« on: October 27, 2013, 12:22:17 PM »
When I was fishing in the harbour at Plakias, I offered a fish I had caught to what I thought was a local guy. It turned out he was from Bulgaria and unemployed. I ended up giving him 4 fish, hooks, weights and other bits and pieces. We also came across a few beggars of Asian origin as well. I have come across this sort of thing in the north of the island before, but this was a first for the south. Is it a big problem in the southern areas now?

Plakias / Walking near Plakias
« on: October 02, 2013, 10:05:39 PM »
Although we have stopped for a day in Plakias before, this will be our first time staying there. I'm not much for sitting on a beach all day and prefer to go off exploring around. Any interesting walks nearby that you can recommend? I do not have what is termed "good walking shoes", preferring flip flops or trainers at a push. I noticed an interesting old mill not too far away - how long does it take to walk there? Appreciate any replies or advice.

Plakias / car hire
« on: September 29, 2013, 08:22:05 PM »
We will be arriving in Plakias on October 8th and wondered if anyone knows of a good car hire place? By good, of course, I mean dirt cheap! Also, what are the best routes for any gorges nearby - by which I mean is it easier going up or down, where to park etc.
