The rozzers have just been and walked down the full length of Souda beach and told everyone to put their swimwear on (womens tops included) as nudism is illegal, and they have had complaints. I asked if it was still OK at the far end of Plakias and was told it is illegal everywhere and they would take action if there where any complaints

Back to Plakias far end this afternoon, all as normal so far😀😀😀
-
Hopefully this is not the end of the far end?
Barny.

I don‘t remember Souda as clothing optional. Is Microamoudi also lost for the Naturists?
-
Souda beach is allowed, except in august when the Greeks are on holiday. The guy that rents the chairs told us 2 years ago.
they are probbably already warning before the Greek family's are comming.
We seen the same in the last 2 years. Greeks claiming "their" beaches.
We went to far end and Ammoudaki in august and keep Souda beach for before and after season.
You also see more clothed people on Ammoudaki in august, mostly Greek.

So, Is Plakias far end still the same?
Barny.

Plakias far end still same as ever 3 weeks ago when we left, maybe a few less sunbeds and brollies as the beach was eroding away and covering the rocks again
-
Far end was still the same, micro Ammoudi was crowded with Greek familys, mostly dressed.

Any updates? We come over in September? I was aware that July/August were dodgy ... but June?
-
To answer my own question. Souda IS definitely naturist. Spent 5 hours there today. In fact there we probs more naked people than clothed.
-
That's good to know, probably start off OK again next year till someone complains and starts off the cycle again ::)

Ok, the latest news on the Souda and Plakias beach situation is as follows. We went to Souda today (home tomorrow) and spoke to the sun bed guy. I mentioned the June Police raid and he said that following that there were heated discussions with the Police and the upshot is that Souda and Plakias are now OFFICIALLY NUDIST. It seems that the authorities were persuaded by the fact that if the Police lent on the nudists (so to speak) then they would all go elsewhere and that (on his estimate) would remove 30% of the occupants from Souda and Plakias. Over the course of a season that must amount to several thousand people and several million euro to the local economy. btw I hate being classified as a 'nudist' I just don't see the need for clothes on a beach and why anyone would want to swim with trunks on is totally beyond me.

That's good to know, maybe give Souda another go next year. I'm with you all the way,
Whats even worse than swimming with trunks on........having to lay in the sun with wet trucks on ::)
-
I'm not really a nudist, clothes-off type or whatever name it goes by, but keep thinking that I must try one year. The 'kit optional' beaches haven't ever offended/bothered me, can't see what the fuss is about really. Everyone turned a blind eye for years and all was well. Still, good to hear that it's official now.
