Where to eat...or not! / Throubis (opposite Cozy Cafe)
« on: August 07, 2017, 12:01:15 PM »
We ate at Throubis last night and I can recommend it. We had a tomato & cucumber salad and the ingredients were really tasty. I had octopus with pasta, which was really succulent. Mr Arnaki had pastitsio which he also rated highly. With half a kilo of red wine it came to €24. We had a free carafe of raki and a small dessert on the house. The service was extremely friendly and efficient. Whilst we were there a party of 14 turned up, were accommodated without fuss and the service to all customers continued without problem. Throubis has been quite busy so may not need my recommendation, but I wouldn't want you to miss out.

Holiday Companies / Olympic Holidays and API
« on: May 09, 2016, 10:56:57 PM »
The time is nearly upon me to pay the balance of the holiday - but on the bright side that does at least mean we are one step closer to departure.  I thought I'd complete the API details whilst I was about it, but there was nothing on the My Booking section to allow this.  Looking further at the website, it states:

"Advance Passenger Information (API)- Update
You are now only required to provide API if your booking includes a flight on Easyjet or Ryanair or if your booking includes a flight on Thomas Cook and you want to add Holiday Extras to you booking."

We're going with Small Planet now.

How do the powers that be get the information they need then?  Why do some airlines need it and not others?  Isn't API is an international requirement?  It's a mystery to me.  Can anyone illuminate me?

Plakias / Booked for 2016
« on: January 02, 2016, 08:03:50 PM »
Hello and Happy New Year!

The Arnaki family plus one will be back in Plakias in August 2016.  We are going from Manchester and the prices this year are a bit eye-watering, but I found I couldn't do it independently any cheaper.  Not long before we are no longer tied to school holidays....

I did get my loyalty discount which amounted to a grand total of ..... £12!  It represents a contribution towards a meal out for us I suppose, but not a huge discount on a holiday for four!

Top tip: if you don't like arriving at 5am and hanging around roomless on the final day - Olympic website shows only one flight from Manchester leaving at around 1800hrs from Manchester and departing from Heraklion at about 0100hrs, with Germania.  However, if you phone to book, there is a Germania day flight, currently at £10pp more.

Plakias / Elena Tours
« on: July 31, 2015, 10:00:50 PM »
Hi,

I want to get in touch with Elena Tours, but their website does not seem to be working.  Can anyone in Plakias confirm whether they are still up and running please?  They are based on the right hand side of the road beside the Souvlaki House (with your back to the sea).

Many thanks

Holiday Companies / Manchester to Heraklion - Germania
« on: July 11, 2014, 01:54:23 PM »
Could anyone who has used the German flight from Manchester clear up a mystery, please?

We are booked to go out on 19 August, and Olympic told us some time ago that the flight time had changed to 6.50am.  A search for departure in the next 24 hours done on several Mondays still says it is due out at 9.00am.  Looking at actual departures over the last couple of weeks it has left at something like 7.30 and 8.30.

I assume the flight is actually due out at 6.50 and has been delayed, but I am interested in people's experience.

Gossip / Improving access information
« on: January 12, 2014, 07:02:36 PM »
Can you help to improve access information for disabled travellers?

As I make no secret about on this forum, I use crutches and occasionally a wheelchair, and am very keen on accessibility issues.

I am carrying out research for a Masters degree, developing an easy to use method to gather information useful to disabled travellers.  The intention is that reviewers, disabled or not, could then  include access information in on-line reviews, making it a bit easier for disabled people to decide on where to go and where to stay.

If you are someone who needs access information yourself, or if you travel with someone with access needs, I would be grateful if you could complete this survey.

The survey should take between 10 and 20 minutes to complete and can be saved part way through.  The link is here: http://www.survey.bris.ac.uk/salford/access_information

I would be grateful if you could pass the survey link on people you know who may be interested, either directly, through your social networks or through other forums.

This survey will be open until Sunday 26 January 2014.

Many, many thanks

Plakias / Anyone travelling with a teenager in August?
« on: July 29, 2013, 09:42:15 PM »
With the full approval of our 14 year old daughter, I would like to ask if anyone else will be staying in Plakias accompanied by a teenager  at any time over 20 August to 3 September.  She is getting a bit fed up with holidays with the parents.  Last holiday she made a friend as we were getting off the plane on the way home - they had so many interests in common it was sad that they had not met earlier.

Plakias / Taxi blockades
« on: July 22, 2011, 05:49:01 PM »
I have seen news of taxi blockades of Heraklion Airport and other airports and ports.  Reports are that these are to go on indefinitely. Is this the case and if so how far do people need to walk from the airport building to get to the transfer coaches?  Any news from the ground would be gratefully received.  We aren't due out until mid August, but perhaps other people who, like me, are not so nimble on their feet might also be interested to know.

Got our tickets today so counting down!
