With people now starting to return from thier visits to Plakias I would like to encourage people to start adding thier views to the Reviews/FAQ section (link at top right of screen). I think this could become a great little source of useful information.
Browsing through the categories should be pretty straightforward. To add a response click on the 'Add Comment' link. If you would like to give a rating (1 to 5 stars) then click on the 'Rate Article' link near the top.
If there is anything you would like to be added please let me know.
Thanks,
Paul

Yes that won't be a problem, I'll have my laptop with me. Might be even able to devote some more time to it without the usual distractions.. computer games, pub, wife

Unfortunately you can't at the moment John, the actual articles themselves can only be created/edited in the Admin Control Panel. I didn't write the code but the authour will hopefully allow this in the next release.
In the meantime you can send me the details and I can update it for you.

i notice the Paligremnos is just under accomodation and not tavernas, i think they are worthy of a mention there
some pictures would be a good idea

Dear administrator,
I think shinaria-beach might be worth to mention under "beaches".
Thank you very much

In spite of Paul's appeal the response to writing a review has been disappointing, to say the least. I've been reading posts all summer and loads of you have visited Plakias this year. Prospective first time visitors will find the information on accommodation and tavernas particularly useful.
So, if your name isn't Beachcombers, John R, Alex & FranG, Harribobs, Dotty, Barny, UKPlakias, Ploppy, John & Zell, George, Toma2, Shinaria, Wakefossil, Loukafran, or Ken & Kathy (or anyone I have inadvertently missed from the accommodation/taverna section) how about taking 15 mins to write some reviews. Although most only stay at one accommodation, I guess most visit at least 5 or 6 different tavernas during a two week stay.
I know there are quite a lot visiting during Sept/Oct, so hopefully they will write reviews on their return.

2nd attempt
Hi Paul,
We are still missing Paligremnos at the taverna's section. We think most of the far-enders had a few lunches there during their stay.
As first timers in May 05 had a few breakfasts/lunches/dinners in "town" as well. However we have forgotten the names of the taverna's.
Mousses is the only exception, as we were impressed by taste of the mixed starter.
None of the visited taverna's in town have disappointed us.
Therefore no comments further rating / comments from our side on taverna's.
NB Only once a made a bad choice and something real English (Sorry We cannot describe it otherwise) was served.
Our advice and personal taste: go for local dishes only!
Regards
Beachcombers

I don't see Kyriakos in the Accommodation section, I think a few of us have stayed there at one time or another.
-
Just remembered the good times at "Christos Taverna" right at the harbour. Wonderful scenery, good food [from "spaghetti plain" to fish] and friendly staff. Nice parrot! Wouldst thou be so kind to add to the faq/ taverna section?!

Dear Forum Members
(Quote)start adding thier views to the Reviews/FAQ section (link at top right of screen) (Unquote)
I haven't got this at the top right - or anywhere else - on my screen!
There are various references to the 'Reviews' section so I thought I'd have a look at them - even joined the forum in case you had to be a member to see 'em, but still can't find the little buggarrrrrrrrrrrrrs!
I am a bit thick/blind/geriatric so a bit of assistance would be appreciated.
TIA
Jenny
PS
Last time I was in Plakias there was no tarmac between the Alianthos Gdns and Meltemi in fact don't think they had finished building Meltemi??? There was absolutely nothing except one very good taverna beyond Meltemi. (Is that now the place beginning with a P I have seen mentioned on this forum?) There was waste-ground at the side of the A. Gdns where they used to park all their hire cars - think they had a tap there too to wash them? Stayed at Stella's (who believed loo seats harboured germs therefore did not have any) and used to say Kalimera to the priest every morning (is that correct or have I just ordered squid?) as we passed the church on the way down to t'front and A Proper Breakfast - as Stella's were very sparse!
Can anyone tell me how long ago that might have been (we went with SunMed I think) - and - has the old place changed much? (LOL) cos we have just booked for Oct 3 - 10 with Olympic !!! YESSSSSSSS!!!!
Husband No 2 has not been to Crete (at all) before but like me is a committed "Far Ender" (see I have been lurking for a while!) and has taken a rev 'n' go scooter up many a goat track on both Kos and Rhodes - and on Skopelos we took one from one side to the other on un-made roads. I'm telling you this so you will realise he's really a nice bloke, he enjoys a Mythos as much as the next man, he likes ouzo (he's just gonna love raki!) as unfortunately I also have to admit to you all that, although I can empathise with your aversion to the emporia of a certain Mr Ronald McD, that same gentleman is also somewhat responsible for funding our holidays as Pete works for a company that makes a lot of the kitchens for them - so if only for the sake of my future holidays - please don't knock it too much !

Hi Jenny, welcome
You haven't been for a while, have you, Sun Med must have pulled out of Plakias about 10 years ago, I think they got took over buy First Choice who also pulled out.
We had an intruder on the site a while back and we lost the 'FAQ' file which your looking for, but our illustrious Admin are doing there best to re-instate it.
Plakias does change and has done over the years but not that much. The roads are all Tarmaced now.
I won't say too much as it might spoil your stay but as far as the Stella is concerned, I'm sure John R can fill you in with all the details you need to know.
Welcome back and enjoy your stay!

Stella's is somewhat more upmarket now. Loo seats - yes, but germs - EMPHATICALLY NO - must be the cleanest place on earth. As from this year, all rooms have full self catering facilities. As from last year Stella's breakfasts were somewhat enhanced - still the same eggs but quite a bit more fruit, yoghurt etc. etc. At the room prices we considered the breakfast to be a welcome freeby though you can indeed stay without ordering breakfast for an even lower (slightly) price. When First Choice pulled out, this was a blow to Stella who 's rooms used to be full most of the season. They now depend on independant travellers. We continued staying with them with us going independent and never regretting it. Their marketing of a superb product is a bit weak so they need a bit of support but I suspect they will be at full house levels when people eventually realise how good it is and start returning like we do. We are almost reluctant to recommend them for selfish reasons - we want rooms there together with the peace and quiet.

i remember the the pre - tarmac days and also traveling with sunmed....dont know when you were there but i can tell you that the meltemi opened in 1984. so it must have been before then

Hiya!
Thanks for the responses - it could have been prior to 1984 lol Our first 'nudist beach' experience was at Myrtiotissa on Corfu in 1981 - rather belated thanks to the Sun newspaper and Phil Vallack's book 'Free Sun' (is he still alive, anybody know?) We joined a naturist club in 1982/3 and I know we went to Plakias during August after some friends there had been in the May and told us about it. To be honest I thought it was a bit after that - so maybe I am wrong about M being closed?
I don't have any fears about revisiting Plakias because (assuming of course we don't get a room as small as the one we had in Skopelos where we virtually had to get dressed in turn and had to unplug the fridge to boil the kettle) the only really important thing to us is there being a naturist beach within striking distance. Anything else is a bonus!
Way back then I remember we went to Preveli a few days on the boat - but more textiles than naturists - and also found a 'deserted' beach a bit further along the coast (where an ageing British chap lived in a shack) Don't think we ever went to Damnoni or Micro Amoudi. If the weather is good (and esp. as we are only going for a week) we might not even get there this time!
Anyway, it will be interesting to see if my memories of various buildings, shape of the coast line etc etc are correct or whether time and rose-tinted spectacles have been at work.

Hello Jenny,
I wonder whether we have met. In June 2004 my wife Chris and I were in a taverna in Tigaki, Kos, having just finished dinner when we got into conversation with a couple. They were not staying in Tigaki, but were about to return to their accomodation by scooter. The gentleman gave us a great account of the perils of scooter riding in Greece and was obviously very experienced on the subject.

Oh how lovely that you should remember us! So you changed from Tingaki to Plakias, was that in order to avoid us, or what?
Jenny
I can confirm that was NOT us LOL - Kos for us was definitely in 1998. In any case, I can assure you we have far more amusing tales to tell, so we'll save them til we do meet you !

Thanks Chris, we did. I know you are out there now and hope the weather is not as naff as Ploppy predicts.
We were surprised by the wind - eight days out of our fortnight - but understand the appeal of Plakias. We decided it was our favourite Greek place, along with Thassos. We had to give up going there whilst we brought up our children (Greek holidays or barefoot children, difficult call), but have never gone back, since the brochures show massive development, so the magic has probably gone and we do not want our memories ruined.

It depends how long ago you went Mike. I got back last night and Plakias has no massive developments going on although it looks like some are planned, but not imminent. There's obviously a lot of building going on around the back mostly small apartment blocks, which is alway going to happen, but they're all very inconspicuous.

George- There is on heavy duty digger on a lot just befor where the harbour will be built- It arrived about 3 weeks ago. There is another on in Sellia waiting to crawl down. Also, the village is looking for fill- (dirt). The construction I am referring to will be just at the bend before the road gets steep- You may notice the small residence built on the left side of the road as you head west. Just to the left of that property is where the harbour will go-

Hi George,
Welcome back. Hope you had a good time. The wind seemed to have dropped to nothing by the time we left at one o’clock on the 19th.
Thanks for the advice before we went, we hired a car for a few days and got about a bit. The wind was about the same as at Plakias wherever we went, except Chora Sfakia, which was an oasis of calm.
Had lunch there and I ordered meatballs. Having come home, I see you said on an old post that you had meatballs to die for there, but not which place you used. We went right at the harbour and lunched at the last place with tables overlooking the water (on the left, there is one more place to the right of the road). When the meatballs came they were soon accompanied by a plague of wasps, so the waiter lit some powder on a saucer and by the time I finished, I was eating smoked meatballs!
A good sign was that, on ordering, the waiter ran off to the kitchen, then returned to say they were still cooking and would not be ready for half an hour. I have been to places in Greece where they would serve up half cooked. They tasted very good and the tip was, also.
I was talking about Thassos. We last went there in the late '70s. We looked at some brochures in '99, but did not recognise the place we had found so magical and ended up going to Crete, though not Plakias. This has been our first visit to P, and, though more developed than Thassos was in the 70s, it has a very similar feel and I know we will be back.
We did look for you every time we passed the Livicon, but did not see you. I think we may have spotted you on the beach – did you use a blue beach towel held to the bed by beach shoes through the corner holes?
Mike
-
Hi Mike
Glad you enjoyed it. I use an American Express towel which I've had for years and goes everywhere with me. It's a sort of faded gray/green now and it gets tucked in around the frame of the bed over my inflatable pillow (an allowed luxury). I am nearly always on the first bed of the front row of the far, Far End beds.
Didn't stop in C.S. this year but did pass through it on the way to Aredena, you were in the right place for the meat balls although I think I used the second one along.
I was in the Levicon from around 9.30-10 most evenings and always got a good seat at the front.
I had a minor hiccup but o/a it was the usual very pleasant couple of weeks.
Sorry I missed you, maybe next year although we don't live that far apart, we might bump into each other at Asda!!

George,
With my aged peepers and looking through sunglasses, blue may be an approximation.
We were at the far end on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of your first week. The gentleman I refer to was on a bed at the very eastern end, by the hosepipe shower and was accompanied by a blonde lady who had a pink towel, the couple often washing fruit under the shower.
Regarding the Livicon, it was a timing issue; we normally hit the street for our pre-prandial libation around 8 and in a taverna by 9.
For reasons with which I will not bore you, my wife is a confirmed Tesco, Burgess Hill shopper, but Ditchling Beacon just may have an influence!
Mike
