Where to go / Re: Argyroupolis-Accomodation and Tips ?
« on: May 13, 2014, 12:13:01 PM »
Yes John, a fun road to drive up and down with great views along the way. Take care though if you are not a confident driver. It's a bit like a smaller, narrower and slower Cretan version of the infamous Pikes Peak hillclimb in the US:)

Where to stay / Re: Good hotels?

Stella's very much gets our vote. Stayed there most years since the earlier '90s, which says it all. Run by a lovely family and they deserve as many bookings as possible. Once visited, I expect you will return.

Agreed, Lampyland. Some religions do seem to take us backwards rather than forwards. Rest assured I didn't take your comments as in any way snide. Lastly, I like your sense of humour:-)

We have no knowledge of the Sharia law situation in the Maldives and saw no evidence of it over there, but from what you say it doesn't sound too great in some respects. We met many Maldivians working on our island and straightforward villagers when we visited two other non-tourist islands and found them all to have a warm, friendly disposition and no malice. Very different to what we sometimes encounter in the UK. Plakias is still a favourite destination though and we will be back later this year. Barely a year missed since '92. BTW We have nothing against nudism, but it's just not our thing:-) Each to their own.

We love returning to Plakias, but do enjoy exploring other parts of the world too and have just returned from an excellent two week break in the Maldives with temperatures into the 30s every day, endless sun and no rain.

I mention it as we were amused to note whilst over there that nudism and even topless sunbathing are strictly forbidden by law, with severe penalties for any transgressions. Not much good for the Farenders amongst you then. Good job we aren't:-)

We'll definitely be eating there again next September as long as they are still open. Fingers crossed:-)

Sue and I fully agree, Ploppy, knowing well the person involved. I suggest this thread be closed in the interest of those so sadly affected.

I christened farenders "the Dingly Dangly Club" a few years ago and it's made a few people laugh since:-)

The pics bring back great memories. Let's just hope we can help to spread the word and people try the place for themselves. We all know they won't be disappointed and will for sure return.

We fully agree, Lampyland. A real shame that few tables were occupied most of the nights we ate there, but it did seem to be getting busier just before we came home.

Where to eat...or not! / Minoiko

Just back from another great two weeks in Plakias staying as ever at the excellent Stella Studios. Soon established four favourite places for eating out. The Medusa, Harakas, Antonis and somewhere new for us this year the brilliant Minoiko. The latter is situated approx 200m from the front down the road leading towards the youth hostel. We really recommend people try it. Great food and service and decent prices plus attractive surroundings and very clean. Equally as good as our favourites over the years the Medusa and Harakas.

PlakChat / Re: Plakias beaches October

For many years we used to head to Plakias for the half term week in late October and, with just the odd exception, the weather was still pretty good then and so much better than back in the UK.

Plakias / Re: Sun Beds

I won't lower myself to suggesting that your above post is rubbish, but I would politely suggest that you have no evidence either as to whether naked beachgoers bring more income to Plakias than normal visitors. However, I won't even respond to your silly reference to trolls. We are just regular visitors to Plakias over the last 20 years who prefer to keep our clothes on, like so many other visitors. Anyway, now bored with the subject as sadly things clearly aren't going to change, so will leave it at that. End of story.

Sorry, Noopsy. As others have already said, the far end is far from family friendly unless you like naked fellow holidaymakers, young and old, on the beach next to you. As for extending it for the latter, that hardly makes any sense. I'd be very surprised if "normal" visitors to Plakias don't bring more income to the village than the unclothed ones.
