The camera pointing to the south-east is working, the other is not.  Very cloudy today with big waves crashing on the beach.  The maximum temperature too is only a 'cool' 28 degrees C.  Some consolation...

You're welcome.  Enjoy your trip.

Unfortunately there will be no update this year as I won't be going to Plakias.

I think it's gone quiet because people are away on their annual holidays.  Maybe when they get back they will share their news and impressions with the rest of us, and the forum will then liven up.

Plakias / Re: Paleochora v Plakias

OK.  I will add my tuppence to this debate.  I prefer Plakias but, the bus service between Chania and Paleochora is better than between Rethymnon and Plakias, the people in Paleochora are friendlier, and the beach is more interesting.  The range and quality of restaurants in both resorts is about the same.

If you are travelling by bus from Heraklion to Plakias you need to take one to Rethymnon, and from there another to Plakias.  Here is the link to timetables and other useful information: https://e-ktel.com/.

Have just been looking at my yahoo account and also found 4 spam e-mails with sender coming up as board etc.  So have blocked that address, and hopefully will receive nothing further.

Or, of course, you could go by public transport: very cheap, and not as bad as you think.

« on: September 12, 2017, 02:09:39 PM »
Thanks for all this.  As it happens, when in Plakias I discovered that my goggles were leaking through one lens as the mounting was chipped so I had to ditch them.  Even though conventional snorkel tubes may have anti-flooding valves, it can still happen that if you are breathing in and a wave washes over you, you can breathe in a whole load of water and end up coughing and spluttering.  Do these new masks protect you from such an experience?  If so, and as I don't have a pair of goggles any more, I might be tempted to buy one of the new masks.  (Incidentally, the masks I saw being used in Plakias were like the ones shown on the website in shinaria's post.)

Yes, I've updated the prices too.  Bear in mind, though, that the prices I have shown are not average prices charged by that particular restaurant: where I have shown a high price it is because I had a more expensive dish on my visit e.g. fish.

PlakChat / Snorkelling masks
« on: September 08, 2017, 06:30:02 PM »
When I was in Plakias this year I noticed a number of snorkelers using a new type of mask.  It covered the face in full and had a little breathing pipe protruding from the top.  Does anyone know anything about them?  Are they better than the usual goggles/snorkel combination?

Yeh, this all started on the 1st September, coincidentally when there was a massive improvement in the weather.

The taverna is actually called Θρούμπι - pronounced Throumbi - and by all accounts is very good.  I shall be visiting it during my stay in Πλακιάς, and will add a short review on it to my list of restaurants when I get back.
