Plakias / verdict
« on: October 15, 2005, 06:42:55 PM »
Plakias and south Crete were great! weather was great, done a lot of walking, good beaches outside Plakias, took lots of great pics - no stress ! when my mates arrived for thelast week - we all had good time, dined well, drank well - had a laughs and some rough mornings ! Only moan is the lack of a decent club - The Meltemi has died me thinks and they should hire a new DJ! We stayed at the new Myrtis star hotel in Plakias, I can honestly say the were the best rooms I have ever stayed in in Greece, brand new hotel, jacuzzi bath shower in all rooms, big rooms too at very reasonable rate!!!  Far end of Souda probaly the best nearby beach but best beach was at Frangocastello..............Next time I go to Crete will be in April / May when all is pristine and new blossoms...
While walking i found that they are using some gorges as rubbish dumps, completely messes up the local enviroment and i was disappointed. Thanks to Anso Travel for the great transfers...

cheers  jason

« on: September 09, 2005, 05:37:24 PM »
I looked everywhere for flights for single traveller outwith the usual 7 or 14 days, without much luck or cost was too much. Thomascook airlines sorted me Man-Her  www.flythomascook.com  may accomodate you at very decent prices - look under offers for best prices. For the Scots among you Jet2.com fly Edin - Ter 1 manchester for under £ 60 return - just a 2 hourt gap between connections!!!

Where to go / Ferries and WW2 history
« on: September 09, 2005, 02:22:24 AM »
ello all

I can visit some of the coastal towns west of Plakias by ferry - cant i ? As well as Gavdos and Prevelli? I realise the initial assault took place in north crete but is there any ww2 history / relics in this part of Crete - my grandfather was a signaller - motorcycle courier -RS - ho told me he met his 1st german believe it or not-  in the hospital bed next to his in Crete - german aircrew who had been shot down pre- paratroop assault, my grandad had back injury after coming off motorbike, they both were evacuated to Alexandria before Crete collaspsed!
