Plakias / Help needed
« on: May 16, 2008, 05:17:45 PM »
On behalf of friends who need someone to help them run a small family taverna with 4 rent rooms, I thought someone might be interested in being paid to spend the summer in an idyllic location!
The taverna is literally next to the water so don't apply if the sound of the sea bothers you!
It is on the south coast between Agia Galini and Plakias. Immediate start, until October.
Good conditions, reasonable pay, friendly Cretan/Australian family.
Live in position, all food and accommodation provided
To contact and find out more about the location go to http://www.agiafotini.net

PlakChat / Flowers of Crete
« on: July 27, 2007, 11:53:31 AM »
One of the things I have always loved about Crete in general and the south coast in particular is the amazing displays of flowers, some of which are found nowhere else in the world. In recent years though, intensive farming and building development have started to take their toll, with many meadows being ploughed up and the pesky oxalis taking over at the expense of the indigenous species.
A charity has been set up to try to get some protection for the areas that remain, and the woman that runs it has been asked to speak at an international conference in Romania which will hopefully raise awareness of the unique nature of the island. Only problem is - she needs funds. If anybody wants to contribute hard cash towards this, it can be done through those wonderful people at the Hellenic Bookshop: [a href=\'index.php?act=findpost&pid=0\']http://www.hellenicbooks.com/julia.htm[/a]
You have to go through the purchasing procedure and give your 'delivery' address, and then say how much you would like to donate in the Additional Information box - complicated I know, but it is for a very worth while cause
BTW I have nothing to do with the organisation, and don't know Julia personally, but anyone who wants to find out more can check out her wonderful website [a href=\'index.php?act=findpost&pid=0\']http://www.flowersofcrete.info/[/a]
