That's a rubbish poll. Best places to visit? Why no 'Watford' option?

There are more buses in the summer, including into the evening, you may well be alright in May, check the timetables nearer the day. And if the timings don't work out great there are worse places to kill an hour or so than Rethymnon bus station - it's got a café/bar and a terrace with a view over the sea (the toilets are rubbish though...).

If you're flying into Heraklion, then you can get a cab from the airport to the harbour bus station (10min), then a bus to Rethymnon (one and a bit hours) and from there to Plakias (45min) - last time I did it, it was about 25 euros in total. However, there aren't a lot of Rethymnon to Plakias buses, especially not as early as May 1. Google KTEL Crete for timetables. It's a good introduction - locals on the buses and the fabulous views of the gorge just before you get to Plakias.

I'd guess VAT - fair enough really.

Holiday Companies / From Heraklion Airport to Plakias by bus

While planning my journey this year I went onto the KTEL website, and was pleasantly surprised to discover that they had extended their service from Rethymno to Plakias: the last bus now leaves at 1930 hrs.  This is great as I won't need to catch the first plane on Sunday night, then toss and turn on an uncomfortable seat for hours in Athens Airport before catching the onward flight to Crete the following morning.  Now I can accomplish the whole journey in one day, and arrive in Plakias just in time for dinner (and a Mythos)!

Noopsy

Just a word of warning - I don't know when you're going but the timetable changes around about the second weekend of September and the late bus no longer runs.

I know this through bitter experience...

PlakChat / how to get there?

hello all,
I want to go to Plakias for Easter and am looking for a flight around 27th March for seven days but not having much luck (school holidays, Ruth is a teacher)!
Can anyone point me in the direction of any company that will get us there?
I think Plakias will be a bit greener at Easter?

                       Barny.

Easyjet from Gatwick to Heraklion on the 28th - unless that's too far from Leicestershire.

Where to stay / Helios appartments

HELIOS apartments consist of 6 newly built luxury apartments in the centre of PLAKIAS .

This picturesque village is on the north coast of the province of Rethymno.

I noticed that - I was a bit worried that if they think they're on the north coast I'd turn up to find the room had sat-nav and free hair conditioner!

But if Steven reckons they're good I may give them a go.

Anybody know anything about the Helios appartments - they seem to be somewhere to the back of Ostraco's and look to be pretty good value. I was planning on just turning up as usual and finding somewhere on the day but I'm tempted to try and book up if there's any decent feedback.

Plakias / Taxi fares
« on: June 11, 2009, 10:01:16 AM »
Thanks anyway, but what I was really looking for was the cab fare from Rethymnon to Plakias. I'm quite happy to get the bus from Heraklion to Rethymnon and I usually get the bus all the way to Plakias, it's under 20 euros. This year the flight time's all wrong so I'll have to come up with an alternative!

Anybody know how much a cab from Rethymnon to Plak costs?

I've always used the buses before but this year I'm flying in mid-afternoon rather than my usual early morning and while it's easy enough to get to Rethymnon, I'm likely to get there too late for the last bus to Plakias. Trying to decide whether to get a cab or spend a night in Rethymnon or maybe Heraklion and go to Plak the next day.

Has anyone had a look at this site?

Just had a look and I admit my first reaction was to think 'must buy a Lottery ticket'.

I do realise this makes me a bad person

Still no sign of the Gatwick-Heraklion easyJet flights going on sale. Anybody got any idea when they might or if they've scrapped the route?

Latest info is later this week probably 5th December

Summer'09 flights now on sale from £100 (inclusive) in September!

Was booking while you were posting!

Out on Thursday 3rd, back Saturday 19th - £131 including the credit card booking fee.

Just have to hope the pound isn't worth a fifth of a Euro by then...

I was just about to ask if you knew when the Gatwick flights went on sale.

Having just got the money back from my credit card company after the xl affair, I've got a bit of spare cash to invest in doing the same thing all over again!
