PlakChat / Town map
« on: January 28, 2003, 06:16:27 PM »
As far as I am aware there is no map for the area of plakias. As a fair few of us regulars know the place quite well, I suggest you simply post a message giving the name of the accommodation/bars/tavernas and someone should be able to tell you exactly where it is. People are only too happy to help.

PlakChat / 2003 Prices

We have booked direct for the past 4 years and 10% is the average increase every year.  Flights need not be expensive if you are flexible about the time of day you fly. We prefer to get the 6am flight with Air2000 so we arrive in Plakias about 2pm. It means we can have a late lunch, a couple of beers, stock up with essentials at the supermarket and unpack before a drink on the balcony and finally dinner. This does of course mean we pay a premium for the flight and it cost £215 each last year (when you book direct).  However, even taking that into consideration it still works out cheaper than going with one of the tour operators. It also means less hassle at the airport when you arrive because you are not kept waiting for everyone to board the coach. A taxi is far more civilised and it is nice to be met by the driver as soon as you have collected your luggage. A taxi will cost about £35 each way.
All in all with flights acccommodation and taxis, it cost about £375 each.
Hope that helps

Where to stay / Place to stay for 4
« on: January 21, 2003, 05:43:21 PM »
I stayed at the Ifigenia last year in the refurbished apartment upstairs. It is quite big and spacious. I would just like to add that if you have children you would need a car as there is quite an uphill hike from the village to the apartment. You would struggle with a buggy and you couldn't just pop out to the shop if you had forgotten something.

I also thought it was a little noisy at night as the locals are there most evenings and I did miss my sea view!

The owner Mannoussos and his wife were very helpful if you needed anything and he did breakfast if you wanted it in the mornings.

Plakias / Visiting Plakias for the 1st time

Souda bay is another nice place to go. It is located about 3 k west of Plakias and is very quiet with clothing optional at one end. It has sunbeds and two small tavernas which are very good. You can walk or get a taxi but make sure you arrange a time to be collected. Don't worry if you forget, the taverna will order one for you as long as you have a drink with them first. Taxi will cost approx 4-5 euro each way. Makes a change from the main beach.

Plakias / Visiting Plakias for the 1st time

Hi there, Add the village of Mirthios to your list of things to do. It is located high up in the hills behind Plakias. It is a lovely walk up during the day and will take about about 30 - 40 minutes. When you get to the top there are a couple of really good taverna's with spectacular views. On the way down near the bottom there is a stream which is icy cold and heaven to dip your toes in.
If you go up in the evening you can get there by taxi or take the little train which goes from Plakias. I would reccommend you take a jumper or sweatshirt if you go in the evening as it can get quite windy up there and a little chilly.

Have a great time
