Plakias / Re: Rain?

I think so because the webcam is showing that parts of the road look damp. It has been so stormy, just look at the colour of the sea where the sands been churned up.

Nothing will change for holiday makers this summer (except the exchange rate possibly), there is too much to be done before then. Deals will have to be negotiated and who knows what will happen next summer, however, I don't believe we will see too many changes but I am hoping for duty free to be reinstated  ;)

Plakias / Re: Sun Beds
« on: September 02, 2012, 11:53:21 AM »

The problem of the shortage of Sun Beds at the Far End did not exist until last year, whatever the reason regarding the licencing for the number of Sun Beds on this section of the beach, it needs to be sorted out before a significant number of regular September naturist visitors start going elsewhere!

We already have and will not be returning unless the situation changes.

Where to go / Re: The Pelion - katigiorgis

Barny - we go in September which is the busiest month for the far end

Rogataber - the point is we don't want to have to do that, we want to be able to walk on to the beach and know we can find a bed, which just isn't possible unless you get there very early and put your towels down. I think we got spoilt last year when we went to the Maldives, and we had our own sunbeds on the beach outside our villa!

Where to go / The Pelion - katigiorgis
« on: July 22, 2012, 10:23:20 AM »
As much as we love Plakias, the situation at the far end has made us look at somewhere else this year. We got fed up with having to rush down to the beach in the morning just to get a bed. We always stayed at the Peligrimnos and we used to sit on the balcony and watch people drive up between 6.30 - 7.30am, go and put their towels on the bed, and drive off again. This is in September when it gets really busy. It isn't a holiday if every morning you have to rush down to the beach just to get a bed. So it's katigiorgis, in The Pelion for us this year. 2 small tavernas and a little mini market. Lovely apartment with magnificent views towards Skiathos.  Very quiet but no rushing around in the morning!

Plakias / Holiday Report May 2011

Congratulations and many thanks to whomsoever has seen the necessity of restoring the far end beach parasols to their original decent distance apart today.

Whether it was tourist protests or just plain commonsence doesn't matter. It had to be done.

Those of you who wrote on the forum about there being more to Plakias than sun beds are quite right. But to me and many many more old people they are an essential requirement to enjoying Plakias when mobility is restricted.

John

That's fantastic news John

Plakias / Holiday Report May 2011
« on: June 14, 2011, 02:57:05 PM »
I have been going to Plakias for many years and yes, there have been changes, however, nothing that would prevent me from returning, unttil now. I love Plakias and the beach at the far end is a big part of my holiday. I work hard and want nothing more than to lay under an umbrella reading my book with a bit of sunbathing thrown in and lunch in the Paligremnos where we also stay. I don't want to be on top of everyone else and I know all the regular farenders will feel exactly as I do

Perhaps someone returning can tell us how it really is.

Just been reading this on the BBC news site. It's not so much the report but the readers comments at the end with 2 being from Crete. I think it's really worrying.

Mike - I'm inclined to agree with you about it being being unreliable at the moment. It seems to be changing day to day and we have to keep our fingers crossed that when it's our turn, there aren't too many problems.

Plakias / No Fuel on Crete
« on: July 29, 2010, 09:02:29 AM »
Just had a call from my husband who was listening to the Today programme. There was a report on the Lorry Drivers strike in Greece and apparently, Crete has been badly hit with no fuel getting through to petrol stations. Drivers are abandoning their cars at the side of the road. This will obviously affect transfers from the airport.

Has anyone any further information?
