Plakias / Re: Alterations to Plakias front
« on: May 10, 2015, 06:23:52 PM »
I think you are all missing a bit of relevant information. That entire strip of eateries was built illegally without permit. Why should these places have special location when all the other restaurants on the strip have the road in front - Seems to work just fine. Personally I like the open feeling and it certainly relieves the ungodly congestion that existed. I feel sorry for the merchants involved as they are caught unprepared. Lucky that his did not happen during busy hours. I understand the whole bunch was leveled in about fourty minutes - no wonder with  the flimsy construction without regard to codes .

There used to be a festival of some kind around Aug/Sept, the car park opposite Kri Kri was taken up with all the chairs. I only caught it the once so I don't know if this is a regular thing, Dave and Ali might know!

George-
This is a regular event- towards the end of September- It is put on by the local merchants as a thank you to the tourists-

i'm surprised no one has posted these fellas, i quite miss them

my favourite memory of them was one day at the far end, they were routing through a girls bag for food ( while she was asleep) being very disappointed at not finding any, one of them decided to pull the girls hair. the scream and the ensuing run down the beach was hilarious!!!

Harribobs- They are well and healthy- I was in Plakias two weeks ago and they pretty much had the run of the place themselves-

Hi Paul

Thanks you for replying.  We are looking at buying a plot of land on the road out of Plakias to Sillia.  The plot has a lovely view of the new harbour.

What we are interested in helpful advice you may have of what to do and what NOT to do.

Do you live in Plakia all the time and what are your thoughts.

Many thanks

Kind regards

Julie

Just looking at Easter flights, I can get one from somewhere called 'Gatwick' to Heraklion and get a car rental to plakias.! Is much open in the way of rooms in March/April? I would search but not much happens! Has anyone stayed at this time?

                                Barny.
Barney-
Easter typically kicks off the tourist  season in the islands and in 2010 Easter is on April 4- March is tpically a  month for sprucing/.cleaning /fixing up- You will find accomodations in March and certainly April. BY then also the many restaurants are open-
Good luck-

Yes, the tap water was brown....
Where were you staying? The rain should not affect the domestic water supply system- I suspect that there is a problem with perhaps broken pipes- My water was prfectly clear-

They are working hard on it every day even on saturday and it's suppossed to be ready the end of this year (or so they say)
Chris H.

OK all you doubters. I recall many posts which poked fun at the progress and now we are so close. The contract called for a time frame of three years starting in Oct. 2006- Well, it is Oct. 2009 and they are finishing up with the asphalt. What is there now is the extent of their contract and I think they have done a great job- How about a round of applause.
