Title: What's happening with Stella Pensions??
Post by: Jaffa on September 26, 2004, 09:26:56 PM
Could anyone who recently stayed at the Stella Pensions shed a bit of light as to what the future now holds for Stella and Yanni now that First Choice have pulled out of Plakias?  Anyone know if we can book them independently, or have they been taken over by another foreign company? Also can anyone recommend accomodation for a family of four (2 children  11 and 7) with a private balcony, as we normally go on our own but want to take the kids next year.

Somewhere recently on this forum someone said they had seen a poster at Stella pension inviting people to book with them privately for next season.

We will be there from Wednesday morning onwards and it is probable that we will book privately with them for next September. Knowing their lack of English I have pre-prepared a calendar with dates, contact details etc clearly marked thereon.

Will report back soon after my return on 13 October.

Looking forward to seeing you there as well. Do introduce yourself - I'm a zomby when it comes to recognising the obvious. Have been know to walk past my wife in the street without noticing

Re Stella, yes towels provided and changed frequently - rooms kept imaculate. Fridge provided but no cooking facilities - not even a kettle. Take travel kettle, + mugs if you need them - plenty of plugs. Air conditioning available at extra cost.

Yes - me  - just got back yesterday after 2 super weeks in Plakias, staying at Stella pension and also in the company of forum member Dotty and her Husband - two very super people .

Stella are taking private bookings for next year - and I booked with them for the same two September weeks next year (2005) - I already have confirmed flights.

They are charging 30 euro per room per night including breakfast.

Their son Marcos speaks English and you need to ring or fax him (same number) on :-

2832031956

That info is on a hand written notice in reception and Marcos also wrote it on the back of the card for me.

Stella number (reading from their card) is :-

(0832)31.615 - 31.959

Little point ringing them on that number due to their lack of English

That is the number he gave me. Not sure yet about the 2832 as the prefix is usually 0832  - someone else on this forum might help here.

He has asked me to ring him about 5 days before I set off to confirm the room number so that I know which room to look for on my very early morning arrival. All things being equal he is booking me into the room I requested.

Marcos said he or his wife are nearly always at home and both speak English.

Hope the above helps

My experience of Greek telephone numbers is that the number you have for Macros will be correct - just add 0030 in front to dial Greece.

The Stella number is 2 or 3 years out of date. It will now be: 28320 31615 and 28320 31959.

The Plakias Guide confirms this. Telephone 0030 28320 31615. It also gives a fax No. 0030 28320 31956. Info should also be available at the website - www.plakias-filoxenia.gr but it was down when I tried it just now.

Sadly it seems that most of the Stella Pensioers for our 2 weeks are not rebooking at Stella. So it is likely that is the demise of that named group.

However we are all going to be scattered around Plakias and surely will meet most evenings in Livicon. I heard another reference to us which perhaps might be a fitting new name for "our" group which meets in the so called Plakias British Legion Headquarters (Livicon Bar). The reference was to "The Saga Louts"

Sorry about that 'repeat' - finger trouble.

Quick update.   Frederico closed the Plateia in Mirthios yesterday (Wednesday 27 Oct 04) - so Marcos is now a relatively free agent and in a position to handle telephone (or preferably fax) bookings for 2005.

Understand he is working on a web site for Stella Pension - but please remember, it has been a long season and he may want to take a little time to recharge batteries before leaping into cyberspace.

Thanks everyone for all your info, it's been really helpful.  My wife's just booked flights for next June for my big 40  , so I will be on the fax machine at work on Monday to book a room. We have stayed at Stella for the last five years and always had a different room. Having a memory like a sieve especially after a few in Ostraco's!     Can anyone confirm that room 7 is the  first double room at the back on the upper floor. Also does anyone know what room number the very end room on the left on the same floor is ( I know it's got two single beds but it's got a sea view). I hope someone can refresh my memory and once again thanks for all your help. If anyone's in town on July 2nd see you in Ostraco's late !!!

I have a room plan of Stella right beside me.

Ground floor - front (sea side) all twin rooms 8, 9, 10 (10 far end)
Ground floor back - room 11 (double) at far end. Room 12 a self catering apartment (double) at near end, back.

1st floor :-

On front (sea side) all twins 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (so 5 is far left room on 1st floor)
On back - all double, rooms 7, 6 (numbered from near end) - so yes, 7 is the first double room at back on 1st floor.

Hope the above helps.

Hope you can let me know how Stella are coping when you get there. I'm booked for 2 weeks end of September / beginning of October. All the rest of our party (the Stella Pensioners or Saga Louts have booked elsewhere. Wonder what we said :'(

Thanks a lot John. We can now hopefully get the room we want. We thought long and hard about going it alone or booking with a travel firm. In the end we decided to go it alone and stay at the Stella because we love it so much. It's nice and quiet and has a lovely feel about the place. We hate big hotels and like bathing on the beach, not around a crowded pool. Also we know where it is when we've had a few!   I hope regulars like the Stella Pensioners try to go it alone in future and give Stella and Yanni their custom.
I'm sure they'll let you know where they're staying. If not it must have been something you said!!!

I have just receved a Christmas card from Stella Pension (nice touch) and they quote an email address - which I suspect will go to Marcus their Son.

It is brokalak@otenet.gr

Haven't tried it yet but it might be useful for those making bookings etc if it works.

Thanks John. We also got a card today. Have been in touch with Marcos via fax and have received details about room prices.  The cost is 30 euros a night including breakfast and air conditioning. This seems pretty good to us as air con use to cost an extra 30 euros a week. Does anyone know what Stella and Yanni would appreciate from England. We would like to take them something when we go in July?

That is the price he quoted us. Didn't mention the air conditioning, though we didn't go into details nor ask for a written quote.

Can't think of anything offhand to take from England - nice thought though - will get thinking.
