Yes, Plakias has changed a bit. Mostly I think between '75 and '90 when I first went

The slower the better!

Heather.
Hello Heather,

Many, including me, will agree with these sentiments. I still think the large development on the way to the far end is the one to worry about as it has the potential to change the character of the place. It sounds like some folk haven't realised there is a Europe-wide recession going on.

Re. your 3 weeks, did you manage to persuade Olympic to allow you to go for an extra week or did you book independently?

Mike

Hi all,

Not been on the board for months. Are there are any recent pics of the devlopment anywhere?

Plakias / first time in plakias

Hey George, It is Finikas Dancing Club I think . It seemed to be a bit erratic in its opening hours last year I seem to remember but we ended up in there once or twice. It is on the map which will help you find it.

Quote from: George
There's a night club behind the Platia bar, but for the life of me I can't remember the name of the place (somebody will). I've never been in there and if you didn't know it was there, you'd never find it. It's makes no sound and there's no flashing lights to indicate that it exists.

When I was in Plakias this June, the Finikas Club was never open, even at the weekend. I remember it as the Hexagon Club, and then there was the Meltemi Club, and going further back there was the Swing Bar.

Where to stay / Helios appartments

they seem to be a little confused as to where they are

HELIOS apartments consist of 6 newly built luxury apartments in the centre of PLAKIAS .

This picturesque village is on the north coast of the province of Rethymno.

If you know a bit of Greek, it's easy to confuse north and south, since south is Νοτια (Notia). It's a bit like Ναι meaning Yes.

Plakias / Help needed

In the travel section of this morning's Guardian, there's a full page article about the taverna at Agia Fotini. It sounds as though it's a good place to stay if you want total seclusion: 'It is a good 30-minute drive, on unlit mountain roads, to the nearest sizeable town, Spili; less far, but a good distance, to the taverna at Ligres'.  I didn't know the Meltemi winds blew from the south, though!

Looks good to me at first glance...........BUT .......Could I suggest deleting all the "iffy"  posts in the Recyle Bin section

Will the map still be available on the new Forum?

If all the content can be kept, I don't see anything wrong with moving to the new Forum.

Speaking of the map, the building to the west of Kyriakos and across the road (and due north of the doctor's surgery) is the Fedra or Phaedra.

Also there's a new pharmacy about where Ali & Dave's shop was. Not sure whether this was their shop or was their shop the one that is now a fish shop? (raw fish, not a fish and chip shop).

Like any brand new software, it is likely to have bugs.
It will also take a while for the add-on writers to catch up and provide ones that work with the new forum software.

For those reasons I suggest we keep the current software for a few months until the dust settles.

I'm with John on this

How do I update the last time I was in Plakias? I can view my profile and update certain information, but it won't let me update the 'Other Information' section. Do I have to be a member to do this?

OK, you needn't bother answering this as I've worked it out now.

I found Plakias to be very quiet in the first week, the umbrellas at the far end were around 50% full, it did get busier in the second week but nothing like what it was like last year, the same was reflected in the tavernas

The donut man is Lefteris's brother ( forgot his name sorry) he told me Lefteris is very ill now and is seeing a doctor at Rethynmion hospital on a daily basis, " too many cigarettes, too many food"

The weather while i was there was superb!

I was in Plakias from Thursday last week to this Tuesday. At the far end there were two sets of blue umbrellas separated by a big empty space. These were almost full and maybe full at times, with some people nude on the next set of white umbrellas. There were nowhere near as many umbrellas there as there were 2 years ago, and certianly nowhere near as many British people about. Kyriakos was virtually empty. I had a room overlooking Medousa and their rooms seemed to be mostly occupied. The bars in the evening were quiet. The only one that was busy at any time was a new one (or new to me) next to Ostraco and only on Saturday night.
