Title: Anniversaries
Post by: Noopsy on June 18, 2008, 09:30:52 PM
Looking at the Board Panel I was amazed to discover that I was shown as celebrating my 4th anniversary today.   But I've been married for over 20 years!    And then I realised that the date referred to the anniversary of joining the forum.  Silly me.  : " />

 Happy Anniversary Noopsy

Speaking of Anniversaries, it is Marge and my anniversary soon and we are going away for a week.
We haven't booked yet but Marge would like to try the Algarve. Has anyone been there, can you suggest a resort?

Sorry Noopsy, don't want to hijack the thread but you got me thinking

I would recommend Lagos. We had wonderful holidays. Lagos is a nice town with several restaurants.
The historic city is very interesting. I would go back at any time.

The Motel Ancora is situated a bit outside of Lagos but not to far away from the town.
We had a car but you can walk it too. If you are interested have a look to: http://www.motelancora.kom.pt/ (http://www.motelancora.kom.pt/)
The bungalows were large and fully equipped (bedroom, living room with kitchen, bath and a terrace at the top.

From Lagos you can drive to Sagres, to the Atlantic coast or to several beaches (we fould a lot naturism beaches).

I have a good friend who lives in Lagos and he says it is not a very nice place. Then I realised that you are not recommending Lagos, Nigeria - where he lives !!

Far memories from our trip to Portugal in 1992...
We were in Zambujeira do Mar [West Algarve and a bit crowded, Great Festival in Summer] Good place for trips to Lisboa and the places in the south of the country. Sagres is great. Our favourite beach was the one in Odeceixe which is a bit like a gigantic Preveli. A small River running trough the Dunes, but when the tide comes in it is more like a Fjord. Farenders welcome.

Well Lagos it is, just booked.

Was going to do Albufeira but couldn't find any good deals. But Lagos looks great (looking at all the photos in Google Earth) despite what will be a long transfer.

I'd looked at Sagres before but ruled it out because there weren't any deals and it is a long way from Faro. But now maybe we can go there (if there is a bus).

I hope you will enjoy your stay in Lagos.
We remember on various restaurants were we ate delicious fish. I also can recommend the jewellery's.
Did you found this web-site: http://www.algarve-portal.com/en/cities/lagos/ (http://www.algarve-portal.com/en/cities/lagos/)
An other idea: Make a boat tour along the coast and you will see the fantastic beaches and bays.

Have a good journey!
I am a bit envious of you. We enjoyed all trips to the Algarve.
When you are back... please tell me how did you like it.

Sorry I have been meaning to write something here.

We really enjoyed it.
Very different to Plakias, a lot larger for starters which is both good and bad.

The local people were extremely friendly and welcoming and spoke very good English.
The food was for the most part excellent with prices a little higher than in Greece.

The coast line around Lagos is beautiful, especially all the arches, grottoes and rock formations around the Ponta da Piedade.
Like many others we did  a boat trip to the point which was an amazing experience, we went at low tide which meant we could go in to these little caves which would normally be submerged.

It certainly wont replace Plakias but I would be more than happy to go again.

Here are a few pictures:

Cheers Chris.

The light was superb, a circ polarizer really helped with the contrast and had an amazing effect on the sea colour.

Hello Paul,

many thanks for these wonderful pictures. I am glad that you enjoyed your stay in Lagos.
The pictures remember of our holiday in Portugal. I agree with you it is impossible to compare Plakias with Lagos. The surrounding of Lagos is sensational.
Each grotto is different to the next.
Some years ago we went to the other site of Faro. We spent 2 weeks next to the Spanish border in a little village called Cabanas
and we had long sandy beaches. It was the exact opposite from Lagos.

At every time I would like to go back to the Algarve.
