Like others have mentioned, I check this site almost every day and read any news avidly - 35 hours left at work this week and then my Plakias preparations get underway - fly in on Tuesday night next week for our 2 week break and just cannot wait !!!  So looking forward to catching up with friends and seeing what's changed in the town as well as relaxing with a G&T in Joe's and a red wine or several with old faces in Kostas Crysoula...deciding where to eat...we put all the names of the restaurants in a bowl and pull one out each day....then start arguing if we really want to do that one that night or save it...put it back in and try another one...simple things !

Thank you for keeping us all up to date and whetting appetites !  We came back last year with olive oil from Sifi's and every time I open it I think of their fabulous food - our favourite first night and last night place to eat.

Albeit slightly off-subject but I don't think anyone will mind - interesting news indeed whilst we wait for an update from Plakias !  So, anywhere near Snaith?

Plakias / Any Plakias Updates?

Having come through 3 separate blizzards this morning on the way to work and my return home under caution with a weather warning looming for 3pm today - anything exciting happening in Plakias to help dispel this winter more quickly?  How is Charlie - still paddling?  Looked bright and sunny earlier there this morning.

PlakChat / Happy New Year 2018 (rather belatedly....)
« on: January 08, 2018, 02:11:45 PM »
A very Happy New Year to all fellow Plakias-lovers...the diet starts today (again!!).  First full week back at work and still reeling from scraping the ice off the car with a -9 temperature in central Scotland this morning !  Went on to webcams and noticed its a bit overcast in Plakias and then looked at Chora Sfakia.....that looks like the end of the world may be coming over the hill at the moment !   34 weeks to September in Plakias....and then aaaaahhhh, bliss on the beach!  Keep well everyone and all the very best for 2018 !

Thank you Charlie's mum and dad, we all would be delighted for any snippets and updates when you can !  How old is Charlie, did you bring him with you or is he Greek?  Sorry, probably being too nosey but lovely that he enjoys a swim - sounds a perfect pooch !

How fab to hear from someone living there ...maybe you would give us regular updates to give us poor frozen souls in the UK (well, certainly us in Scotland) something to look forward to during the long, dark months that lie ahead of us...a Plakias fix every now and again from you would be marvelous...no pressure !!!

Minus 2 this morning and scraping ice off car windscreen at 06:05am.....no heating on train....Monday morning joy .....so to hear Plakias is still fab is a tonic on the day like this in Scotland!  Am very envious and just waiting on EasyJet opening up flights for September 2018.   Booked in with Kostas Chrysoula as usual and looking forward to that already !

Gossip / Re: How did you first find Plakias?
« on: August 21, 2017, 02:45:47 PM »
What an interesting post....thoroughly enjoyed reading thru' all the previous entries !  I too first visited Crete back in 1985 and was also at the Akti Zeus same year as Vulcan when there was only 1 tall refinery tower at Linoperamata !   The years rolled by with visiting other parts of the world and other Greek islands when..... 10 or 11 years ago the sister said - do you fancy going to Crete in September?  She'd been to other places in the island and she narrowed it down to Bali and Plakias and thank goodness we picked Plakias.  We came with Olympic (Edwina was the rep) and stayed (ever since) at the Costa Crysoula and we will be back again in 2 weeks.  We've hired a jeep and got out and about over the years and a couple of years ago we drove back to the Akti Zeus.  Such a shame to see such a lovely hotel all boarded up and now there is a huge refinery just along the beach !  Since we started going to Plakias there have been a few changes and a few 'well-kent' faces missing at the far end - but its definitely a place that has a hold on you.  I never imagined that 10/11 years down the line I would still be coming to the same place, same apartment and same bar - Aggelos is such a laugh and definitely the best barman in Crete, the Costa Crysoula is just like coming home, and seeing Sylvia, her mum and little Rocky, both Costas's and Crysoula - the welcome is genuine and seeing everyone in the bar at the end of the night after visiting Joe's bar and any one of the great restaurants is just the best.  So looking forward to September - a jug of red wine and all will be well with the world !

That's good news.....don't want anything getting in the way of us getting down to Plakias.  On the way home you're conditioned in a way to potential queuing at the airport and no seats in the terminal depending on flight times of course and how busy the airport is.  But arriving with that glorious 17 nights stretching ahead of you.....wahoo !!
