Hi all,

Although I've been holidaying in Greece for a good few years, I've never visited Plakias.  The enthusiastic posts in the forum have perked up my interest and I wonder if anyone has any info on the appts in the title.

Thanks Andy.
Sorry to have committed the "newbie" sin of posting before looking. I didn't realize that only 60 days posts were shown by default. I'll make sure I look at all posts before asking my next question.

Well, we've taken the plunge and will be in Plakias on May 18 2004
Really looking forward to a nicely chilled out fortnight and of course the nicely chilled Mythos
However, SWMBO is a tad concerned about "THE WIND" which is often mentioned. Is it quite as bad as is rumoured?

The "wind" is common to many Greek islands  - we had a few days of it in Samos this October, but the good news is it usually goes as quickly as it arrives - 2-3 days is typical, if it's warm it is not unpleasant but watch your sandwiches on the beach!!!
I saw a book whilst on holiday in Plakias this year called "The winds of Crete" it explained the phenomena in some detail.
I'm sure you will have a great time whatever.

We have been in Plakias in May and did not experience any winds at all, that is not to say they may not blow.  The worst of them are in July/August, which months we avoid, but as Gastronomis says, you are sure to have a great time, windy or not.  May is a lovely time in Crete as the Spring flowers bloom and the air is fresher.  I think I may be talking myself into a May visit!

Is Plakias in May a good choice?  Judge for yourself - have a look at the photographs I took a couple of years back in early May - you should find them here:

Plakias in May

Note the clear blue skies, the calm conditions, the empty beach and the wonderful spring flowers!  I could talk myself into coming with you!

Regards

Allan

PS Thankyou Ploppy for pointing me towards JAlbum for preparing and posting digital images

Thanks to everyone for their replies, SWMBO is now reassured that the
industrial-grade toupee tape will not be required .
