Title: Agios Pavlos
Post by: martyn on June 23, 2004, 06:51:06 AM
This is a nice place with a small pretty beach and a couple of tavernas. Take the main road out of Plakias past Damnoni, Amoudi and Shinarias and eventually you will get the sign to the right. We arrived at about lunchtime and there were only around 10 people on the beach, all of whom appeared to be Greek. This main beach I would suggest is not apt for topless or clothing optional, however, just before going down the final hill into Agios Pavlos, take the sign to the right for "long sandy" beach. If you fancy a 100m climg down a steep slope, there are two wonderful bays (one small and one large) with nobody there except for one guy attending a dozen sun beds. Really quiet, good swimming and snorkelling and I should imagine that clothing optional creates no problem.

Watch the road in (15kms of it), because although it is tarmac, it is windy and narrow and we came across a few tractors and donkeys.

Hope you enjoy it

It's a few years since I was there, but the beaches you mention are definitely clothing optional when it is a busier and there are some people there, though never very many and I think the long beach is always nearly empty. I think there is another beach round the headland to the left (south) of the ones you found, and that was the most popular clothing optional beach in the area when I have been. You can there by boat from Aghia Galini. That last time, though, I went down by car and it was far too windy to be on any of the beaches except on the sheltered bit by the tavernas.

Glad you enjoyed Plakias.
