PlakChat / Which beach is this?
« on: July 06, 2007, 08:23:31 AM »
Would agree, this looks like pre- Taverna Galini as well !
A thoroughly recommendable way to spend a long, long lunch........

Last time I was at Souda, (05 - was it that long ago !!) I thought the beach was very dirty with lots of rubbish both in and out of the water, certainly up near the rocks. Pal and I snorkeled right round the rocks where the water got very much cleaner and clearer and a lot more fish life as well.

Harribobs,
just checked out the photos on the Flickr website - absolutely stunning photos there fella. Mind you, not difficult with the subject matter agreed, but nonetheless very, very good !!

I too have a 'bum' on a few good beaches in the South, in August, when we have been the only ones on the beach - no photos though - can't compete with that fine lady !!

Thanks

You could also consider Christos, close to the end of the jetty.

Of course, forgot that one (how could I !!), the Tuna Souvlaki and their Tuna steaks are simply stunning !!!

Would reccomend 'Tasomanolis', the one with the boat outside, heading west out of town.
Depends what Manolis has caught that day, but he usually has fresh fish on the menu, and they will cook it how you like it.
Give my regards to Tasso & Antonia.

Many, many happy nights spent in that Taverna............

Plakias / cheap flights
« on: March 22, 2006, 06:42:42 PM »
Mike
Booked our flights in Aug, costing just over £1000 for the 4 of us - bargain,
as far as leg-room sure I saw something about 31 inches between seats.
As for baggage -

Adult/child Baggage allowance is 23 kg per person
For detailed checked (hold) baggage allowance, including
infant allowances, click the link below

Hope that helps,
Cheers

Cheers Ali..trust all well with you guys sorry to hear about what happened..

Leen - you got me there, the only thing I can think of is something to do with the original Royal Charter for the Peninsular post - in truth guessing sir.

Sad day (in a sense), got my pay off from all my P&O shares today, another great British Co sold off from GB PLC.
Mind you paid for the holiday and flights this year.
Going BA from Manchester - cheapest flights around, game on.
Not doing Plak this year trying out a couple of other spots to check them out, heard about this place called Malia - understand its up and coming ???
Yes I'm JOKING
Rgds to all

Of the 'proper'boats, the one on the left if I am not mistaken belongs to Manolis of TassoManlis Sunset Taverna, which he uses most days to catch fresh fish for the restaurant.
Nearly fainted when I saw the P&O ship (having spent 25 years working for them) as never thought I'd see one of my old ships on this website !!!

Greetings to all

As far as RCI go, they are an International Co who specialise in Time Share from appartments right up to palatial villas in exotic locations. I know this as I nearly bought a slot in some villas in Sun City, really on the basis that it gave us access to other places, rather than specifically just Sun City. We were only in SA for a couple of years.
As a Co, they are internationally renowned & I know folks who have places through them. Nothing wrong with that if thats what your things is.

But as John quite rightly says ' no such thing as a free lunch' though there are plenty of people in this world who believe there is.

Can thoroughly recommend 'Taverna Galini' at Souda - the one at the end.
Many a happy hour and good lunch has been spent there.
Enjoy

PlakChat / Car Hire

For the last two years I've used - Citycar in Heraklion, car at the airport when you arrive, and can drop it back there when doen. Admittedly we use the car usually for the whole two weeks.
Details below, and if you want a quote ask for George :-

info@citycar.gr
City Car

Pay Euro 300 for 13 days for a little Atos, with a/c - fine for what you need.

Good luck,

Neil

Speaking personally having a 'good un' on the Raki is fine, as its clear it rarely leaves you with a bad head. It does do , when half a gallon of Mythos and a few Restinas have preceeded it though !!!
Agree with you guys though, I tend to stick to the Mythos, its cold, it tastes good, its local and doesn't blow you out, especially draught.
Am a great believer in drinking local products as if you do find something 'from home' it never tastes the same anyway.
Can you imagine sitting at a Tav on a hot balmy evening supping a pint of hand pulled English finest......?
Don't think that would work.
Stick to the local stuff, you wont go wrong.

Plakias / Supermarket and bakery
« on: April 14, 2005, 05:31:52 PM »
Can thoroughly recommend the bakery that Compage shows you.
Try the 'spanakopitas' for breakfast, - fresh, extremely tasty and very filling, oh and very inexpensive as well.
Can also recommend the circular - 'white cheese (tyri aspro I think)' tirropitas, a bit different but again, superb.
Used to take a trip down most mornings, and it was a mission of mine to make the Lady smile - which wasn't easy.
Always spoke and ordered in Greek, she always spoke in English - Marvellous !!
Either way, get there relatively early and you wont be disappointed.

As for supermarkets, can recommend the one that the English couple run, all you need.
The one as you come into Plakias from Lefgoiya is more like a proper supermarket and probably has more variety, but only used that when coming back from a beach somewhere and have the car.

Hope that helps,
Cheers
