Where to stay?
« on: August 20, 2003, 07:55:33 PM »
Hi.

We are planning to go to Plakias mid/end may 2004 to celebrate my birthday. A Norwegian tour operator, Saga, uses Zorba and Atlantis, and we are wondring which one to choose.

We are mainly interrested in a fairly quiet place, near the beach.

How is Plakias that time of the year by the way?
How is the temperature in the air and the water?

Yours
Ziggy

Hi Ziggy,

I don't know Atlantis but I'm fairly sure we stayed at Zorba in mid-June 1997.

At the hub of the village is a big art/jewellery/craft shop with a big frontage on a corner.
I think that on top are the Zorba studios.
If I am wrong, no doubt one of the other regulars on here will put me right.

In '97 we had the one right on the front corner with a huge balcony.  It was a very nice studio and having the big balcony overlooking the centre of the village was superb for people watching.

However, there was a big disadvantage.
The studios had a flat concrete roof which soaked up the sun's heat all day and, just like a storage heater, gave it back at night, making the studio very hot indeed.

It may not be the same today.
Perhaps they have added another storey above or put in air conditioning.
I would certainly check before going there again.

Even with air conditioning it would not be ideal because you'd need it on all night and have to suffer the noise.

As to temperatures in Plakias, by mid/end May the weather is likely to be settling down to fine and warm (28-32 degrees) and, near the shore on calm days, the sea is likely to be about 23 degrees.
However, it is still possible you could get some rain or high winds.
There are many posts on this board with weather information and I suggest you browse around but you could start here.

Of course you could always book your own choice of accommodation rather than using the tour operator.
Just get a flight that suits you and then contact Anso Travel to book the place you want.
There is lots of information on this board about accommodation in Plakias written by people who have stayed there.
Here is a town map showing most places.

Thank U.

Got the idea of visiting Plakias on my birthday from a friend of mine.
He is going to Corfu this weekend to celebrate his 50th birthday, and has invited a lot of friends with him

Yours
