Where to eat?

hi Mick

welcome to the forum

glad to hear you only had one bad meal, but it is a little amusing that your review follows a glowing recommendation of the same place  I've never been in there so i can't comment but there seems to be a growing amount of people who agree with you

as for the Kastro!  i am looking forward to eating there next month

cheers

chris

Hi all I'm new to this forum but thought that I'd like to add my comments about my experience of the last week in Plakias. I read several pages from this and other sites and as a first time visitor to the area set out to form my own opinions. I had one bad meal in the whole week which was from Manoussos. The place looks great, wonderful atmosphere, the service relaxed but comfortable but the food was terrible. I'm not really one for causing a stir but if I had been served this meal in the UK I would have refused to pay for it. My wifes mixed grill plate consisted of a small sausage, a wafer thin lamb chop and a strip of overcooked pork rind plus the cheapest tasteless frozen beefburger one could imagine, served with a mountain of undercooked frozen chips. I would have thought that a customer leaving 75% of their meal might have prompted the waiter to ask if there was a problem but not last night.

On the positive side the best experience for us was Kastros, nice food and wine with a nice view, fantastic.

Best alround for value and service, Mouses
Hello Mick,

I agree about Mouses.

I've never eaten at Manoussos. I believe this is next to Medousa. However, when I was in Plakias in May the people in the neighbouring apartment ate there on many occasions and were singing its praises. Maybe, they had an off night when you visited. In many ways we are spoilt in Plakias as the standard is particularly high IMHO.

I think most of us would agree that Mouses is excellent value for money. As for Kastro and Manoussos, we've had good meals at both but, as you say, any restaurant can have an off night. With so much choice in Plakias, often only have one meal at a resaurant in our two weeks so if it's a dodgy one you don't really know whether you were unlucky or if it's a sign of poor standards. As most meals are fine, we judge as much by the atmosphere, also the friendliness and efficiency of the service.

Medousa tomorrow night thanks

Lucky you, hope you have as great a time as I did. Missing it already

My Medousa stifado was  wonderfful!!

I also got nice taster touches like free anchovies and ? (can't just think what)  for starters and a delicious little plate of yoghurt and fruit puree dessert after. The raki was good too (and plentiful)

Lovely meal.

I also had great food at Sofia, Mouses, Harakas ,Sunset ( Tasomanolis), in fact not a bad word for any of them

Enjoy Harribobs !

Say hello to everyone from us two (you know who). Cold again here after two very hot days (hotter than Greece they said). Ground frost and nice new topping of snow on Scottish and Lakeland fells.

Vrisi In Mirthios, highly recommended. A new (well in it's 2nd year) Taverna, we ate here 4 times this year, the setting is wonderful with breathtaking views, the decor & ambience you will not find elsewhere in Plakias, the food was very good with daily specials also & great service from the one & only Fredy. Very reasonably priced too.

Will try & post a photo later on.
