I assumed they were done by people on the beach - when you see one, it's so tempting to either create one or to try adding an extra stone to an existing one.

Ostraco is great if you're wanting to stay close to the centre, but walking back from the Far End today, we popped into the Paligremnos, as we have done many times in the past. Not at all welcoming - maybe they want afternoon trade to use their beach bar. No milkshakes and all soft drinks (for Karen) are in small bottles, so we moved on. The beach bar is 4 Euro for a 500ml Mythos, so we gave that a miss. Antoni's Place has a nice feel to it, and at 2.5Euro for a Mythos, it gets my vote.

So far, we have had good meals at Gorgona, Harakas, Mouses, and Tasomanolis. Service at Sofia was very friendly, but the food was too salty for our liking.

I can believe that of Manouses! I like the quirkiness of the place but as Karen's a veggie, we tend to go for tavernas with etensive menus. Mind you, that didn't work out that well at Sofia's last night. I hope we'll try Manouses before we leave.

Summary of our meals so far:
Gorgona - very good and quite cheap.
Harakas - very good. Try the Mushrooms a la creme with rice!
Tasomanolis - very good for fish.
Mouses - very good - tasty Cretan Pork
Sofia - friendly staff and (too) large starter portions. Food was quite salty.

We also like Harakas - friendly staff and the Mushroom a la creme with rice is always delicious.

Just eaten in Sofia. We found the female 'front of house' staff extremely helpful and not at all pushy. They offered useful advice for veggie alternatives when Karen's first choice was unavailable. I had Cretan Sausages as a starter and did have to ask them to be cooked a bit more as they were only warm in the middle. Probably ok but having had a bad experience a few years ago at Kastro, I didn't want to take a chance. Karen had grilled cheese starter. Both very tasty but we felt the portions were too large. We noticed a few other diners also looking a bit worried by the size of their starters. Main courses were good, but too salty for our palate and, I would say, saltier than we've had in other restaurants. So, the food was a bit of a let down, but it's a shame as the menu had several interesting, different dishes and the service was friendly and efficient.

Staying at Kostas Chrysoulla at the moment. Having a great time but maybe we shot ourselves in the foot by requesting a quiet studio. No. 58 is ok, but not one that's been refurbished. Also, just a reminder - if you get No. 55, insist on moving, as the view from the balcony is just a stairwell! Wifi is good, in that it reaches all studios, not just the bar area.

Lecture accepted and noted, Dr Richard. I have had a course of Metronidazole and was very good - no alcohol while I was taking it or for two days after O:). I did see the emergency dentist today who backed up my own dentist's opinion that any infection is slight. I have probably got a slight fracture which isn't helping the pain but I'll be getting a crown as soon as we get back from holiday. Luckily, this time I'm on Amoxicillin so I'll allow myself the odd drink or two

Looking forward to our trip to Plakias on Tuesday but annoyingly, both Karen and I have toothache that our own dentist hasn't fixed. Painkillers are just about working but i was wondering whether there's a dentist in Plakias or whether we'd need to go to Rethymnon. Hope it won't be necessary to go while on holiday, but at the moment the odds are about 50:50

Yes - may see you kalloni as we overlap by a week and we're also at Costas Chrysoula. Say hello, if you see us. We have flown via Chania before but were disappointed that the transfer was just as long. A long time ago so I can't remember whether it was with Olympic or First Choice.
