I am reliably informed that Platia Bar is open - sort of. Tables and chairs are at the front but building work is going on at the back.
The bakery will be up & running very soon.....we were told last week.
The Platia bar owners had a dispute & if anyone has seen it lately it has been partially demolished inside.
We agree with the last statement it was great & full of character in it's od state.
Quote from: GeorgeLogically I'd keep the pleasure cruises (Preveli etc) where they are and use this one for the fishermen and the ferry (if that happens).
that's what's happening, commercially it would make no sense to run them from the new harbour, you can see a few of the fishing boats tied up at the new harbourQuoteNice pic as always Chris, Thx!
thanks!!
Quote from: bwianThe other thing I'd asked was whether anyone knew where one could get one of those balls that bounces on water - there was a couple (English?) playing with one on the beach (far end) earlier this week.... any ideas..?

Quote from: Graham_and_KarenIf you have an Abbey or Nationwide debit card, they are the cheapest ways of paying when abroad. I remember the rates, last year seemed reasonable but will get the the Euros we need in the UK, using the MoneySavingExpert site to find out what the best deal is just prior to going.Using the Nationwide card will get you the commercial rather than tourist rate which will be much better.
Some Post Offices offer a much better rate than others. When I bought about a month ago the Stevenage PO was around €1.10 and the Hitchin one around €1.04.
Lastly, don't even think of buying € airside at Gatwick airport.

Quote from: bwian"The track beside the Plakias Bay hotel, heading towards Damnoni, has been bulldozed for the first part. "Actually it makes it easier. I only went down it to Damnoni etc but there was also an initially bulldozed track leading off it towards the hilltop above the far end.
Does that make it impassable? We use that route quite a lot when we're there....

• There was only very minimal activity at the new development opposite Paligremnos and what has been built are just shells.
• A smart looking pavement is being constructed from the bakery out on the road to the east and has currently reached Santa Maria.
• An airport taxi transfer (I was told) in now 90€.
• The track beside the Plakias Bay hotel, heading towards Damnoni, has been bulldozed for the first part.
• Although the £ is well down against the € I was pleasantly surprised to find that of the things I bought in Plakias, almost without exception they were the same price as a year earlier in € terms.
• Teacher's whisky is 15€ a litre airside at Heraklion airport (and that was the UK strength of 40% ABV rather than export strength of 43% ABV). Not too many UK buyers!
• The Olympic rep. is called Alexander Innes.
• There is a new “Doughnut Man”. He has some of the same patter at Lefteris but makes it sound much less interesting.
Plakias certainly has its fair share ofreturning visitors each year.
