Where to eat...or not! / Re: Lysseos

Yes, hard to imagine Plakias without them. I heard that Xristos is also closing at the end of the season.
Can anyone confirm this?

In Plakias at the moment and enjoying our evenings in Lysseos as usual.  However just to advise that Lysseos will be closing at the end of the season as Lucas and Lito are retiring.  Wishing them all the best but we sure will miss them.  Many great memories to look back on.

I was in Plakias last week, for a very short stay, and didn?t eat at Lysseos - I wish I?d read this before going! I will really miss the place.

Wasn?t everyone?s favourite, but felt the same when Harakas closed. Both were there since my first visit in ?95 (which seems a very long time ago now). I did see Sonja and Lambros early in June, having lunch on the prom, in the trees opposite Alianthos Beach hotel. Was nice to say hello!

Plakias / Floods
« Last post by JBMouse on October 16, 2022, 12:52:26 PM »
Terrible news and pictures of the floods on Crete, all the news is from the North coast, but can anyone tell me did anything bad happen to Plakias, did the gorges overflow like before and damage the roads etc in the southern areas of Crete?
Best wishes to all those that have been affected, wherever they may be.

I second that, do try Zach, been using him for many years, last price was about 115 euros one way, but that was, sadly, 2 years ago, hope to get back in 2023.

Holiday Companies / taxi transfer from Chania
« Last post by JaneGary on October 11, 2022, 01:41:54 PM »
Hi. We've been going to Plakias for over 30 years and usually hire a car. My son is going this Saturday (15th) and requires a taxi transfer from Chania. Any advice on the best company to use regarding reliability and price would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

Plakias / Re: Plakias 2022

Daniel, We haven't made it to Plakias for over 2 years now, due to covid, travel restrictions and my health causing several cancellations, and we do miss it, it was the place where we fell in love with Greece and the Greek people well over 20 years ago, and we have 2 other places we visit regularly (always try to do all 3 each year) but old age and ill health hasnn't so much as crept up on me, more like charged in with a fanfare of trumpets, and will restrict my choices, if I have any! The long and costly taxi transfer to Plakias is one factor, (I won't drive as I like my ouzo too much) but I know we will try at least one more time, to form our own opinions, and maybe to say a proper goodbye to Plakias and all the good folk who live and work there.

Understand where you?re coming from Daniel but I?m not ready to give up on Plakias yet.

I remember the days of no sunbeds on any of the beaches, a longer dirt track to Souda that went further up the hill, a scramble over the rocks past Damnoni, no Hapimag, no beach bars.  Also power cuts, communal fridges on the landing and cold showers!

I think you?re correct in saying Plakias now has many more day visitors as evidenced by the sheer number of cars everywhere.  It certainly has lost its ?end of the road? hippie/backpacker vibe of yesteryear which is a shame.  Still the views of the mountains and out to sea remain.

Hope you find an alternative.
