are holiday companies pulling out of Maleme?

I know Maleme and it's surrounds very well as we usually meet up with friends there for Battle of Crete commemorations in May. (yes it is a long drive from Plakias)

Its a small town with a unremarkable beach, and not a lot going on. I haven't any information about tour operators pulling out.

I rather suspected that it will get eaten up as Platinias expands westwards down the coast in the Hersonissos manner. Already the gap between Platinias and Gerani is disappearing..Maleme next.

Hello

I've just returned from two weeks in Maleme. I've heard rumours that holiday companies are pulling out of Maleme? A couple of locals told me that they thought this was the case.

Has anyone else heard this?

Searched and asked around, could be true. North Crete is now being equivalent with Turkish tourist resorts. Package flights to Turkey (year around) are  much cheaper.
Competion is fierce due to still increasing tourist developments in Turkey.

I imagine that recent events in Turkey are going to hit their tourist trade very badly this year

(worryingly I sneezed when I wrote that..... :'( )

I hate to ruffle everybody's feathers but I suspect this problem will hit more that just Turkey (the country that is) before the end of this season.
