Santa Maria Apts
« on: July 19, 2009, 05:21:04 PM »
Am hoping to come back to Plakias in early August (for the 3rd time) but it seems the only place available is the Santa Maria Appartments. That's fine, but I can't seem to be able to find out if they're air-conditioned - a bit of a must in August, in my experience.

Can anybody help me here please???

Thanks

Santa Maria is rated as 2 star but that doesnt mean they wont have A/C, try phoning Olympic, unless someone here has stayed there. If they have A/C you might need to pay extra. Failing all that buy an electric fan when out there, they're not too expensive

There is a very efficient air conditioning system at the Santa Maria. Just ask the owner and he will make it available for a daily , weekly or longer rate. I have forgotten how much it was last year .
You will have to find him during the day as there is nobody around later in the evening.

Enjoy your stay.

Just back from staying at the Santa Maria appartments. The air - con is 6 Euro per day. We didn't need it as we had force 8 winds. Hope you have got an appartment at the front as the ones at the back look straight at a breeze block wall, and some new appartments being built that are a bright terracotta colour.

That was one of the windiest weeks I have encountered in Plakias in all the twenty years I have been going!
Did you do the Birmingham flight yesterday?

Yes we did the birmingham flight yesterday. Good flight times. We didn't mind the wind as when it didn't blow it was too hot. When it did blow we used the beach below "On the Rocks" as it is a bit sheltered and we didn't get sand blasted.

I must have seen you get on the coach then, I was on the front seat with Ruth.
Shame the flight missed the early slot. That narrow lane in Rethymnon with the road works was a laugh !

Meanwhile, back at the apartments.....

Can anyone tell me what they provide in the way of crockery, cutlery, kettle etc...? Or more to the point, what they DON'T provide that you thought they should/might?

Thanks

Bob

You should find all those things are provided. There is also an iron and most things for basic self catering.

There was no hairdryer but I take my own travel one anyway.
If you need things like blenders then take a small one with you.

I was holed up in my apartment at Santa Maria when I left hospital in Rethymno still quite ill and
for two days catered and did basic cooking with bottled water and everything I needed from the little supermarket alongside the Church.  (Turn right and across the road for a hundred yards or so )They sold just everything I needed and very good fresh fruit and vegetables  ( CAVA )  (and nice wine !). I am vegetarian but I saw ham and other meats in their fridge. Plenty of tinned food and all very good.

You will be okay. Just enjoy .

Sorry for being sidetracked. The room we had had minimal but sufficient crockery, saucepans etc. There wasn't a bottle opener or corkscrew, and take a wooden spoon if you are planning on cooking. There was no hairdryer but there was an iron. Hope this is of help.

Oh, I have just been reminded that I nearly ran over my wife in the process! Bit bruised and scratched but otherwise OK.

Re.babysitting: I suspect that, at an average of 6 foot, they might end up sitting on you. Or maybe that was the idea!

No !. Just sitting watching them will do. Ho Hum. All the 20 year olds we get around here are 6' to 7' tall , blonde surfers and lifeguards. So I have had some practice watching them (from a distance) so as not to get arrested. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
