We made the decision not to return when we were there last September. We have been going for about 22 years, but really noticed how the feel of the place has changed. Time to move on.

We were in Plakias in September, having not been for two years and we were surprised at just how busy it was compared to 2019. Plakias is not the small village we first visited in 1995 and has now become a small resort. We always used to eat in the paligremnos at lunchtime and even that wasn?t up to its usual standard. The olives were so small in the Greek salary that there was no meat on them. At the start of the second week we had our usual saganaki and it had been deep fried rather than pan fried. It was so greasy we left it, not something we ever do 🤢
Sadly, we have taken the decision to not go back and now we just need to find something a bit smaller and not so busy. Any suggestions are very welcome 😕

Pleased you had a good holiday. I was just wondering if with the construction work going on it made the bit of beach near by and the Paligremnos Noisy as we have most of our lunches there?

I had fresh Kalamari this year for the first time ever and I could not believe how good it was compared to the standard frozen stuff you get in most tavernas. Does anyone know which tavernas serve fresh Kalamari in Plakias.

The exchange rate is going down and I bought last week at 1.08. It is miw down to 1.06!

As the exchange rate is so poor at the moment (1.08) at the post office, I am wondering if I might get a better rate in plakias. Would anyone be able to tell me what is at the moment please? Also can you still exchange at the Alianthos and car rental place?

In today's newspaper it says Greece does not intend to implement the additional security checks until 7th October this year. Which I believe is around the time it was meant to commence in all EU country's .

I don't think you will have any extra delay or additional security checks from uk airports, the additional checks and delays, if any in Greece, will be on arrival and departure at a Schengen airport. If passengers need to be at a uk airport before the 2 hours they should be notified by the airline. What these extra checks from the eu mean to the API information which we have to supply to airlines prior to a flight is any body's guess, as the API is supposed to enable the security services to thoroughly check all passengers before they fly.

I am flying in to Heraklion, but my friend is flying in to Chania on the same day. I don't mind the extra checks, but as we are travelling independently, we would like to know if we need to allow extra time.
