Gossip / Re: How did you first find Plakias?
« on: May 05, 2025, 12:32:12 PM »
Kalimera, I've been visiting Crete since 2008 and have had one or more bases every year on each visit to the island and then explored the area extensively.

My first visit was in October 2014. The destinations: Frangokastello, Plakias and Agia Galini. In Plakias, I went to the Thetis Rooms, which no longer exist.
Then again in Plakias in October 2015.

Then I was back in Plakias in October 2020 and April and October 2022.

Since April 2023, I've been in Souda/Plakias twice a year for several months.

Now in March/April was my 10th visit to Plakias...

Best regards from Hamburg, kv

Exactly Tasos, now concentrates exclusively on the boat tour business.

Tasos took me hitchhiking from Plakias to Souda a few times in April. Super nice guy. His wife has also taken me hitchhiking.

Kalispera DandC, the tavern no longer exists. The former taverna is now a boutique.

It now offers boat tours: https://plakiasboattours.com/

Yassas, the price level in Plakias has risen dramatically this year. You pay ?2-?3 more for a meal than last year. The prices are outrageous...

Water is still free as a welcome drink - with a few exceptions. Olive oil is nowhere to be found on the tables.

I've just spent a week in Paleochora and the price level there is much cheaper (tavernas, bakeries, supermarkets).

Holiday Companies / Re: Car Hire

Yassas, have now booked again for 2 days in April with Moto Auto Plakias. They now have almost 100 cars in their fleet.

However, the price for a week was cheaper with another provider.

So it's worth comparing the prices at Moto Auto Plakias, Car Island Plakias and Monza Car Bike Rental.

Kalimera, the heavy rain yesterday caused a rockslide in the Kourtaliotiko gorge.

Where to eat...or not! / Sifis March 2025
« on: March 28, 2025, 04:35:31 AM »
Kalimera, I was invited to dinner at Sifis yesterday.

The food is good, but the prices are now like in the Cyclades.

Moussaka in a small round clay pot a proud 12.20Euro (9Euro 2022, 10Euro 2024). Tzatziki a hefty 5.20Euro (still 4.50Euro in 2022), portion of Chorta 6Euro. You are charged 3Euro for bread and a small bowl of olives as a welcome drink. There is also no more olive oil on the table!

Conclusion: simply too expensive.

The Sifis taverna has had many regulars for many years, especially from Germany, as Sifis speaks German and serves simple but good, down-to-earth Greek cuisine. Another advantage is that the Sifis taverna is open all year round and is the only taverna open in Plakias in winter. Important for digital nomads and residents.
