Plakias / Underwater photography

Hallo Jeff,
it´s definitely worth to take it with you.   There´s not really much huge fish or dolphins around but the underwaterscenery is fantastic. Especially around the cliffs at the far end, at microamoudi, and shinaria. From microamoudi you can reach the next - even smaller beach- by diving through an underwater tunnel [aprox 10m long] that  leads through the rock. I took some nice submarine pictures there a few years ago. [From my avatar you may guess a little bit of the sceneries magic as it shows a painting I made in memory of the place... "Entering microamoudi" But never try alone cause if you fail in reaching the other side you will not be easily found...

Where to eat...or not! / Where to eat?

Hallo harribobs,

to find the place you have to follow the road that starts right beneath the souvlakia grill
in the center of the village in northerly direction. You will pass a supermarket driven by  some people from the UK and another by a greek family on your left. A few steps further [last house before crossing and opposite of "Ouranos" Appartemens under a huge palmtree] you will find the place. We had our rooms in Ouranos in 2003 and the balcony with a view [and an ear] on the place.
Once we went in for dinner and and it was really alright. To be honest, the maroccoan masters wife was soooo extremely friendly and almost too endeavored.
We were so ashamed, that everytime we passed by their establishment for lunch in plakias without entering their place we really felt guilty...
Try the dishes in this special terracotta containers!

This dog is really a nice guy and he´s running around  with his little black friend between the two ends of the Plakias bay all day long. Treat him a donut [apricot]!

Dear Community,
here is my twomonthly-news-about-the-new-buildings-request...  
Has anybody noticed something going on there? Is the Meltemi still existing? Whatabout the "far End"? Is it "NO TOPLESS SWIMMING HERE"now? [ and how is to practise to enter the sea without head?] Strange things indeed...!

Hope we will meet plakias as it was in July if we succeed in trevelling the way down there with our old microbus....

PlakChat / Car Hire

Two years ago we choose a car from alianthos. Unfortunately we had a flat tyre during a trip to sellia [sparewheel on board]. To our surprise we had to pay 80 € [  !] though we paid the extra charge for "full insurance" Next time we will go with anso I think...

Hallo Tom,
you might find what you´re looking for in Ouranos Appartements. We were there in 2003 with our two little children and it was really fine. Great Rooms. It´s about 300m up the road at the souvlakia grill. Very quiet though near to the harbour. You can have breakfast in Hotel Sofia which is driven by the same friendly couple. Maroccoan Food right on the opposite site of the road and two markets in 50 and 100m distance.

Has anyone news about this subject?
Has work started...

Being abscent last year [Nice trip to Cres / Croatia with kids and microbus] we think about destinations for our summervacation and - as you might guess -we would like to go to Plakias in July. Our fear is that it might not be so nice to share the place with all those noise, bulldozers and caterpillars. We would be very sorry to look for an other place but in this case we consider to go to Lentas or Loutro. Has anyone been there and can share experiences about ? [It sounds a little bit perverted as I read this words. Just like: Plakias destructed! - next one, please   ]

Being aware to be a part of the misery done to Plakias as a tourist I know that we as guests should be careful with "good advices". It might be allowed to say: We loved the place as it once was and in many ways still is. I know that in town there are some people that try to protect this beauty and others that only want to maximize their profits overnite. May be good for the first grop of people to know that they are not totally wrong!    

I wonder if the little Photoshop exercise will be shown in this posting and I wonder if I have placed it on the right section of the map?!

It´s a nightmare! Maybe some officials of the Finikas area would be interested in the results of a quote like "Will you visit Plakias again if this plans come true?"
Who is the investor? Seems to be a British Company? Or is it the Alianthos-Group - then we may ask ourselves if we should frequent their hotels, car-rentals and "the train" in future...
