Vegetarian food
« on: June 28, 2004, 11:26:00 AM »
I am going to Plakias - from 10 to 24 august with a new partner who is a vegetarian - and that includes no fish . I am  a carnivore and a Plakias veteran so have long established my favourite restaurants - first and foremost the Lysseos but the occasional visits to HArakis , Chrystos , and the one everyone likes in Myrtios . It will probably be possibleto get vegetarian meals in any of those but the choice could be  very limited .I would therefore welcome any advice on the best places for vegetarian food , esp if any of the above are good , which will still allow me to enjoy the best carnivorous meals

Hi Roger - an earlier topic 'Where to Eat' has a lot of discussion on favourite restaurants. To view it, you may need to change your View settings to view 'From the beginning' as the last post was Oct 2003. My wife does not eat meat and, although she will eat fish, prefers veggie. Our favourites wer Mouses, Corali and Ariadne. Post any feedback on your favourite places for veggie food when you get back - happy hols

Hi
From our experience, a good variety of 'veggie fare' is available at all the named taverna/restaurants.  Certainly the Plateia in Myrthios will go out of the way to produce something 'special' in the unlikely event the menu offerings don't appeal. Mmmmm!!! I can savour it now!! Bon apetit!

Roger - Mouses is on the front, to the east of the harbour. If I remember correctly Ariadne is on the road leading away from the front close to the Costas Chrysoulla Apartments

On my recent trip, I found that Minoiko (near Ali and Dave's shop) offers more imaginative vegetarian fare than the standard array of Briam, Imam and Gemista.    Of course they still have a plentiful choice of carnivorous meals.  Also Niko's Souvlaki place apparently does veggie curry.

I agree with Rodger, Minoiko is now excellent for veggie food.  We went there last week with my brother (friends looked after the shop) and they now have a veggie section on the menu which included some of the usuals plus moussaka and some other different and interesting dishes.  Great prices too.

Also, Ariadne used to be down the road from our shop, currently being totally renovated, not sure of scheduled opening date, this year or next I guess!!

Sounds good - can't wait to try Minoiko's in September.
