Hi all,

Christmas greetings from Plakias when only two days to Christmas. My wife arrived two weeks ago and she had some rain and thunder now and then during these weeks, but mostly sunny and not to windy. So far this week the weather has been a lot better than the same week last year and the forcast gives hope for remaining good during Christmas.

Here are som pictures to keep your memories alive

Morning sun over the village

I'm with you spottt, I always think to myself that a nice slow stroll down to the far end in the morning will give me a bit of exercise. But if there's a car sitting outside the apartment it does seem such a waste doesn't it?

george...

We have just paid 184 euro's for 2 weeks car hire with a company called 'The Best cars' this was an out of season price as it was for the first 2 weeks in November but I think their prices are vey good anyway. That price was for full insurance no excess & 2 drivers. The car was good as was the service at Heraklion. So if your thinking of booking a car do look at their website www.thebestcars.gr .

Rowena

Hi Rewena

That is very good information......as regulars to Plakias we are always looking for a better car hire deal.
Have just checked their website for end August next year and for 28days hire we could save more than £300 compared to our normal deal with Euro Cars...........well done & thanks.

If we every happen to meet in Plakias we will owe you a Beer!!

Happy Winter

Les & Dave

PS.    sorry spelt your name incorrectly!!

Does freddy, the sun bed man at the far end ever get a mention on here? We first met him in 08 and found him to be a real friendly and helpful person. We were in Plakias July this year and he remembered us, he even lent us his canoe so we could have a paddle round the bay. One night he even served us our evening meal in a taverna saying he didn't recognise us clothed!!

Hi Spottttttt

totally agree with you, we met Freddy when he first came to Plakias many years ago.....he is a real genuine guy, helpful and friendly to everyone.
His brother Lefti is a waiter at The Paligremnos and is equally as nice. We look forward to having a good laugh with them on our annual visits!!!!
For two oldie's like us it is so refreshing to enjoy their company & their wives Emma & Linda.

Hope you'll continue to enjoy Plakias as we have for more than 20 years.!!

Nice place to stay, very basic but clean.  Barman, Angelo, must be about the best in the business!

Kostas was a little down with the end of the season coming. I was shocked when he told me what Olympic pay him for each room. He wants to improve facilities but needs the money to do it!  Good luck to him in the future.

Will be going back!

Must agree with you about Angelo, he makes everybody feel so welcome and it made so much difference when I went back to Plakias on my own this year knowing there was somewhere I could go for a drink and meet up with an old 'friend'.  I stayed at the Dora this time as I wanted somewhere a bit quieter with better views (we were on the ground floor in the room next to the bar when I went with my partner to the Kostas last year) but it was great to be able to use all pool and bar at the Kostas.  Not sure how many rooms Olympic have on their allocation but I know that at least one other tour operator use them though they're not from the UK and you can also book direct.  If I go back to Plakias with my partner we'd definitely stay at the Kostas again and go back to see Angelo.

Hi Gemma1 I fully agree with you and hope to meet you again next year both at Kostas and Muses,

Hi Dotty, it was great to meet up with you and your hubby at Kostas and Muses.  Hope you had a safe journey back to Humberside.

Just back from our first time at Kostas Chrysoullis.........very impressed by the helpfulness of everyone, basic but clean and suited us for a quick late break. Angelo of course makes everyone happy and is a brilliant barman.

We were pleased to meet up with Cherry & Steve (Cabbyman) and glad that they feel they would want to return to Plakias again.

We love Plakias so much & it's great hear the stories of other 'Plak' fans.

Dave & Les

Yes great to meet  you both ........Plakias has got a hold of you!!!!!!!!!!! even though you "never go back to the same place"  ha ha!.............. hope to see you next time.   xx

Sorry to have been so rude by not replying.

We have airport transfers on Tuesday (!!!) and have decided not to risk the drive from Heraklion in the dark.  We'll pick a car vup in Plakias on Wednesday.

Where's the best place to spend Tuesday evening??

Hi we are arriving Tuesday & staying at the Kostas, we have been visiting Crete for 23years & Plakias for 20 of those!!!!

Plakias is like a magnet to us & we love it!!! we have driven all over the Island & would be more than happy to pass on any 'tips/info'
which you may find helpful.

We have used Eurocars for the last 4 years & we get a 'return customer discount' + a further discount if we pay cash.  We collect the car at the Airport as we normally are 'flight only'  we stay at the Paligremnos Aug/Sept (highly recommended). This year we are just having a late cheap package (Les has just had a stay/surgery in hospital). We just need some late sun before the dreaded English winter sets in.

Have a safe journey & perhaps we will meet up.

Regards

Dave&Les

Hi, look forward to that. I think time will be limited; We're aiming for Knossos on Thursday and then driving over to Kissamos to see some friends on Friday and Saturday.  If you see us, you're looking for the bald, fat guy with a grey beard and ......... I'll let her describe herself later!!!  [She says 'Middle-aged bird with shoulder length hair!](no I didn't, I said: Fat middle-aged........)

Getting excited...

Cherry & Steve.

Ha Ha!! wish we were that young.............Les will be 'rushing' round with her stick & Dave will be sporting a bald head & a nice 'cuddly' belly...hey ho!!

Hope to meet you even if briefly......

Where to stay / Irida studios
« on: September 08, 2009, 12:44:27 PM »

Hello all,
I am just looking at the Olympic site for next year and they are offering the Irida studios. On the map i can locate this accommodation being opposite the Santa Maria,  but the Olympic site states that it has a pool and it unsuitable for wheel chair users and the infirm and to bring a torch for night.
Is this the same place or have I missed something?
This place was the very first place I stayed at in 1989 and was known as the Pension Paligremnos also the youth hostel was opposite!

                     Barny.

Hi Barny

I think this is the same place as it is opposite the Santa Maria. We had friends stay there in the 90's and in recent years it has been updated & is owned by Monolis Kalatzidaka ( one of the Paligremnos sons) I quess it could have been the original Paligremnos? We know that Monolis put a swimming pool in a couple of years ago.
Not a bad place to stay, only a short stroll down to the beach & probably a good standard ( we have stayed at the Paligremnos for the last 15 years) and Plakias for 20 + years.

Plakias is like a magnet to us!!!
